[ TRIM - RED CLIPS - stops / fails at speedramp clip in timeline ]

I have wired problem trimming SPEED RAMP RED CLIPS from confirmed timeline.

1. got EDL and QT REF from EDITOR . ( V1 to V8 )
2. Import complete footage ( my case its 8 TB ) ( required footage for tis timeleine - REEL - 3 TB ) ( TRIM comes down to 17 GB )
2. Confirmed Timeline to two layers
V1 and V2
3. Trim RED CLIPS selected to new directory
4. Export Resolve Timeline - XML and EDL
5. New Project - Import trimmed media folder to MEDIA
6. Load XML - speed ramp clips do not relink
- problem - trimmed media not enough

Example : Clip on original timeline is 10 secs - but speed ramped to 200%
Timmed clip is only 100% speed - not enough data

Tried importing EDL to REDCINE X - and EXPORT R3D - same problem

Need to TRIM - as EPIC footage is 9TB in whole - and required footage for REEL is only 17 GB

could someone please help ..??

Option 1: Copy over the full R3Ds of only the speed ramped clips.

Option 2: Remove the speed effect and export an XML or EDL of the full length of the necessary clips, and trim from there.

Option 3: Trim with plenty of handles.

You're doing it wrong. It helps to read manuals once in a while:-)
1. Conform timeline in Resolve.
2. import folder with trimmed R3Ds
3. Right click on conformed timeline and select "Reconfirm from folder(s) and select your folder.
I believe, you can also right click and use Import "Additional clips with tight filename match" instead.
4. there is no 4:-)

4 would help as i am sick of having to edit a picture locked project and then start editing in davinci as there is no way to get the EDL back out to the AVID.

Adam,

Avid's EDL Manager doesn't do what you need?

Thanks Brandon,
your tip is absloutely working fine, as a workaround .

i was wondering if there is any way to identify only speedrampedclips from the confirmed timeline .

Arum.
If you're trying to roundtrip speed ramped clips, as opposed to speed changed clips, you're wasting your time. Resolve is incapable of using speed ramps. It can only do a single speed. Frankly, I don't know any grading software, capable of doing such a speed ramp trick. So, if you must use speed ramps, then you need to simplify. In NLE, copy the timeline, move the shot in question to the end of the timeline and leave the hole in the timeline. Remove all attributes from that shot and do your XML, grading, XML roundtrip thing. When the graded timeline comes back, copy the attributes back to the shot that needs the speed ramp and put it back into the timeline. Done.

Hi Jake, This is not true. Since Resolve 9, we support ramped speed changes from FCP 7, FCP X and Avid. You just can't build it within Resolve 9.

Resolve 10 will let you build speed ramps within Resolve itself, also adding frame blending and optical flow based interpolation.

Hi Rohit,

Thanks for the reply, found a way to deal with trim speed ramp clips in timeline.

- select one clip at a time works perfect.
Ex : a. Full Timeline consists of 500 clips .
b. Select 25 clips at a time and TRIM
c. Resolve may stop while trimming if there is any speed ramp clip in selected 25 clips.
d. Identify the clip and select that particular clip and TRIM - works
e. Continue with timeline.

SpeedRamp clips can also be identified by clicking DUR. ( see pic )

other best option working flawlessly is - identify and just change one percent of the speed , IT WORKS ... ( ex: pic attached )

Hi Rohit.
i'm happy to know, that I'm incorrect, but how does one recognizes the speed ramp inside Resolve. it is kinda important, if you're trying to troubleshoot a conform in Resolve. There is no indication of speed ramp, but only the speed change as it shows only a single speed. That is why I feel, it's better to leave speed ramps out of conforming process and to re-introduce those manually after the roundtrip.
