Hi all,

I have the latest Resolve Lite version and am trying to conform an FCP 7 XML exported from a Adobe Premiere timeline that contains R3D's, After Effects rendered 16-bit DPX files, and TIFF files. But its not clear to me which setting to use in the conform settings. The R3Ds come through, but the DPX and TIFF files, all of which start at timecode 0:0:0:0 get all messed up.

I've manually conformed but would really like to know why DPX files and TIFF file sequences can be setup when exporting from AE, so that Resolve will recognize and import them.

I did try adding a reelname in premiere but its not clear that Resolve can be made to see the R3D and the DPX/TIFF files at the same time with the same conform setting for reelname.

Anyone have this working and can perhaps offer a few tips to try and track this down?

Thanks!
Nikhil

You can't use tiff files for conforming, as they do not support time code.

I would amend that to say you can't automatically conform them. You have to drop those sequences in manually, just as they were undoubtedly dropped in manually in Premiere.

Hi Nikhil, the issues start here because you have files that to a computer app all look the same... having multiple clips with the same timecode is the first issue. Its like saying come visit my house in LA, im at No 1.. but give no detail of street or suburb to find my house vs all the other houses in LA at no 1. Reel names are the next step and you can use Resolves conform settings on the project settings page to set for the majority of your clips, then in the media pool using the right click, clip attributes, set different reel name conventions for other clips... select all one type before opening clip attributes.. and set the reel name for those clips.. do the same for the other types. Conform can be assisted via file name and path too but ultimately aim to make every frame of your project with a unique timecode.

There is a chapter in the user manual that discussed conforming.. worth a read.

Thanks M Most and Jake for your notes!

Hi Peter, I just finished re-watching Warren Eagles excellent course on dvr that I got from fxphd and am now at a good place to finally RTFM. Your help and participation here is much appreciated! And thank you VERY MUCH for being a part of making Resolve Lite happen. It really helped me learn so much about so many things, not just grading. I'm really looking forward to version 10.

Thanks,
Nikhil
