How about you just have a small recorder box you strap to your belt or put in a backpack?
To me, having the recording / processing / compression chips (that generate a lot of heat) right next to your sensor (which gets noisier as heat increases) is not necessarily the best way to do things.

It sometimes is the best way to do things Bruce. It is really the best compromise between portability, size and heat. I could never imagine any DP worth their weight wanting to lugs a backpack full of several kilos worth of crap (batteries, cables, recording stations) and then somehow work out a way to pass this tangled mess to their first AC without yanking a cable out or tripping over one. And given new generations of technology these sensors, compression chips and processing will undoubtedly get faster and cooler.
