Hi guys, I just bought the Epic, and I've been reading the manual and the forum to figure it out, so far so good.

I was trying to figure out how to delete a single clip, the camera only allows me to playback the clips, put in and out sections, and format the ssd mag, but I can't find out how to delete a single clip. I read the manual, and still couldn't find any mention of it.

So, how do you guys delete a single clip?

Also, for time lapse, is there a specific mode that I need to choose? or just change the fps to 1 frame?

Last question (I promise), how do you guys take stills? seems like most people shoot motion and drag a shot from it, is there a way to just shoot a single still?

Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping me in advance :)

If you install latest firmware (4.0x, still in beta at the moment) you will be able to set a recording limit. So you can have the camera record a single frame each time you press the record button. Via presets and key mapping you should be able to assign a button to switch this on and off easily.

Someone mentioned a great tip in another thread for still burst recording : assign 'REC start' on button press and 'REC stop' on button release, then you have a button that will record only for as long as you keep it down...

HTH

This is not possible.

There are arguments for and against that, but the current status is that this will not happen...

Huh, I'm surprised to be honest, oh well.

That's a cool tip, thanks Mikael!

THe biggest argument against is that for various technical reasons SSD performance is negatively impacted by clip deletes. In most situations the performance hit and/or the software management to fix this is more than acceptable but in RAW cameras it is far less so. The BMCC doesn't allow clip delete either for similar reason, the BMCC is a case in point, very sensitive to the performance of it's SSDs, get a duff unit or skimp on the price and dropped frames aplenty.

The other reasons against put forward commonly are; at this level almost no-one offers it, there's no such thing as unusable, it could lead to accidental deletion of the wrong clips, it enforces discipline in what you shoot, are all far more subjective and the second to last there are ways to mitigate it.

There is, however, the ability to delete individual clips after offloading using REDCINE X PRO.

Sooner or later YOU WILL delete the wrong clip. Its just not worth the risk. Been there done that. I was surprised too when I first got a Red One and couldn't figure out how to delete clips. Then after getting used to it... "One less thing to worry about". Another round of drinks for the team at RED!

When I had the ability to do it on my previous camera, I still didn't take the risk. Also, during the edit, I was happy to revisit some reject clips to actually find a useable snippet that saved my ass.

But I can see how the choice between deleting the wrong clip and formatting the disk can be a bad choice...

Sort of the other end of the process...... request.

But it would be really handy to have a "Go take" button which would not delete a clip/folder but would highlight the folder for easy access in editing process, much the same as Apple already does with file "labels".

Makes sense, ssd is stlll a new technology.

Jason, Bob, I would never delete a bad take, all I meant was to delete a false take. I rarely do delete a clip, I have maybe deleted 2 clips last year.

"Delete last take" only possible within 2 minutes after rec stop would be a great solution from a usability perspective.
You always know what happened 2 minutes ago. But all other can be confused. So you could get rid of false starts.

That would be great to have.

I personally would love to be able to "delete last clip". I don't know if it possible, technically, but it would certainly be a handy feature.
