I am looking for a cost-effective, yet rugged, solution for a video village monitor. We have been using inexpensive 22" LCDs from Best Buy with a VESA C-stand adapter, but they always look like crap and don't hold up to all the moving and banging around. I'm tired of the disposable approach and looking for something more reliable. I can't justify spending big money, because these are for student projects...no clients to pick up the tab.

Also, I'd like to switch to SDI monitors, instead of HDMI...tired of replacing HDMI cables too!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Overall I see a lot of Flanders, Sony, and Panasonic on set.

I've noticed more and more Sony OLEDs though. Blacks are really deep.

This case beat the rest.
SDI HD in. SDI HD out
FW in out.
Thunderbolt in/out.
composite in/out.
Bulit in mixer, mixing camera against laptop or such.
Bulit in speakers with headphone jack.
Built in samsung screen 21 inch.
Built in power 220 in and out.

it works great, just to attach power and bnc and you got it all. if we connect a laptop to it's firewire and start skype we got wireless transmission over Wifi world wide... wich is more bad ass than you might think at first. really cool to have picture from the epic and sound from the laptop feed trough Skype.... then the director can stay at home and direct.... lol

That's pretty cool, Bjorn...is that a commercial product or something you cooked up yourself?

Flanders also update their monitors with free firmware like RED camera.
They just release the BMD Log modes (Standard & Full) in addition to their S-log & Log-C modes.

I don't know why but I despise looking at the Sony oleds.

when in Rome sometimes you have to wear a toga though.

Ha- totally agree....
