  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is it possible to preview the HDRx 2 different tracks in camera. I dont need to see the HDRx blend, but would like to be able to switch between the 2 different images.
If not is there a clever workflow for quickly knowing what the other exposure will look like? Right now I try to do 3 steps with the aperture to get a feeling for what I will get.

Are there any big problems I should be aware of when it comes to hdrx?
A few I can imagine is when you have motion blur on quick shots that it will cause problems. I'm relying quite heavily on HDRx since I'm moving quickly from the inside to the outside with strong sunlight so would not be fun if I can't use it in post production.

Thanks

Unfortunately it is not possible to preview HDRx in camera. However, I do really like your idea of being able to view each track separately which should be possible. What I do which is effectively seeing the other track is change the shutter speed to get a general idea of what it will look like then change it back.

Don't get used to HDRX as it may not be around when Dragon arrives.

Interesting, why do you say this? I believe that HDRx is in the way sensor data is pulled not directly related to the actual sensor imaging processes. Shouldn't HDRx still be available unless they take out parts of the camera that control that when they put the new ASICs in.

Either way, with how many stops of DR we saw on the Dragon.. we might not need it.

You can always use more DR. Plus HDRx has many other uses, I say keep it!

[SUB][/SUB]One thing you can do :

If you shoot at 24 fps at 1/48 (180 deg)
Create a preset for that 'normal' shutter value
then create a preset a 1/192 (45 deg) that's HDRx +2

Assign a button to 1/192 on press, and 1/48 on release...

You then have a quick way of checking momentarily (while pressing) your HDR X track. You can do the same for +3, +4 on several buttons...

The only issue is if you changed your base shutter speed for some reason, the button release will put it back to normal 1/48.

Hopefully this can help someone...

Great idea Mikael!
I haven't used presets before. Do you guys use them a lot. I find its a bit messy to quickly move between different frame rates and resolution. Say 5k 24fps to 2k 260fps. Do you guys use the presets for tasks like this too? Sounds like I need to test them a bit more.

I really do hope that HDRx will be around on the Dragon!!! It is still useful, why would it not be useful to have more dynamic range? And more freedome with motion blur?
