  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4 BETA

TIMELAPSE: today i shot a timelapse, but could not set shutter down to 1/8 where i would have set on R1....i only got to 1/23.98....everything else was grayed out....basically just want a longer expose time per frame....and did not seem to get it.

....what am i missing here? Do i need to now go into a different menu setting?

My Settings were:

Timebase: 23.98
Internal Timelapse: 1 frame every 2 seconds
Shutter: could only go down to 1/24

Would normally shoot at 1/4 to 1/8th. I get the 360 degree at 24fps, but i am trying to shoot fractions and expose longer as i had with r1.

You need to change your framerate (which I suspect was also at 23.98).

Trent, so on top of setting up my intervals within the "internal timelapse" i also need to adjust frame rate at the top level down to 1 frame? I think this is what you are telling me....but why is that not done when setting up internal timelapse inside of settings? seems i set it already at 1 frame each 2 secs....

10-4 ...thanks for hanging around here...i'm going to try more timelapse tomorrow.

Hey Trent, Just wanted to say thanks for hanging around and helping us during this weekendʻs testing of the new firmware. I wouldnʻt blame you if you took a break for some eggnog, but we appreciate you being here :-)

I think I get just as excited as you guys about the new releases. It is extremely satisfying to finally share what we've been working on day in and day out.

Don't worry, I'm enjoying plenty of time with my family over this long weekend. It's just too easy to get on REDuser with my phone during downtime :)

What can I say - I love my job.

Yes. I know it is not intuitive but that is what you need to do. I'm sure we will refine the user experience of these new features as they mature.

Indeed a HAPPY Christmas :-)

Build 4 rocks!!

Pre-Record and Power-safe will make my life so much easier :-)

Although... I am wrecking my mind since yesterday when I ever will use the 30Sec pre-rec... I am used to 4-8Sec pre-rec.. when snakes strike, birds fly away or the mighty wave finally crashes against the rock... all good with 10sec...how about have the user choose between 1-30sec pre-rec like in other settings? Don't get me wrong... but I am happy already :D

Happy Christmas to you all :-)

Liking the new build. Unfortunately, I still find the EVF black levels too high. One way I was getting around this in bright outdoors was to use the RAW view instead. But in doing that also feeds the RAW view through the SDI which feeds the external recorder. Obviously that is undesirable. Is it possible in a future build to control the RAW view out the SDI/HDMI (for some reason I thought it didn't do this in the previous build), or have the ability to have a little more control on the EVF without messing with the Look adjustments?

Thanks again and have a great holiday everyone!

Why was frame-coordinating noise reduction added to the camera software? Is it meta data? Or does it alter the captured frames? It seems to me to be much safer to relegate noise reduction to post via redcine-x, where a more informed decision could be made. But I'm a n00b, so I am certainly missing something. How does it work, and why is it done in-camera?

Tia.

The averaging function is not noise reduction per se, it allows you to manipulate the RAW image data before it is encoded. The end result is an image with less temporal noise and a more efficiently encoded R3D.

I think we'll make it user configurable in the next release.

In the monitor tab of the monitor control dialog there is a 'Tools' checkbox which allows you to control which monitors are affected by the various false color modes as well as RAW.

Can someone briefly explain the new enhanced focus modes ?
I was playing with it on a touch LCD only system, and saw the circle change sizes, etc.
Now for some reason I can't get that circle back again. Somewhere else I read that it may be for external monitors only, however I did see it on my touch LCD.
Thanks!

Love all the new features, but in future builds can we please address the lack of adjustment and raised black levels to the OLED EVF. This is the weakest link in a truly brilliant camera. When using the "other" camera system it is really upsetting to see how good their EVF is. Please Red give us a better EVF, it's so important to us being able to work accurately and efficiently.

Trent gave a short explanation here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...t-and-Epic-BUILD-4-BETA&p=1125006#post1125006

It uses additional statistics to provide a better measure of focus and also provides improved visual indicators when using confirm mode.
