It's a great idea. Personally I would avoid the magnets and instead utilize a spring loaded latch with a pin that could be quickly disengaged and "snap" when closed.

The main reason for a cover to me would be protect the card during extreme situations and I can see this protective door popping open with it's current design.

Sign me up for 1. Agree on the magnets though, I think a release catch is the way to go.

personally i think WC already nailed it with their design SSD Guard design

Still easy access to media, but with prevention from bumping against it :)

Nice. How about a cap on design. It snaps over those two bolts.

Agreed. The WC SSD Guard is rock solid and super simple.

hello phil,

thanks for your feedback, but our first prototype used a lock just like you said, but after tests we concluded that the magnets were much more practical as they are Strong Magnets and its not easy to open the cap. Besides the magnets, there is a guide to avoid not intentional openings..

The SSD Protector also protects your SSD and SSD side module from any dust or particles around your camera, avoiding damage to connectors.

Thank you.

hello Max,
The GRID SSD Protector was designed to avoid any damage to the SSD Side Module, as it is sealed so no dust or particles can enter the module and damage the connector.

If you check our other products you will see that we care about the integrity of the RED Cameras, as we also manufacter the GRID Filter, which protects the internal heatsinks from dust around the camera.

You can check our GRID Filter on the link below:

Thanks.

Presume this doesn't interfere with access to left sides of rear battery mount release buttons and such?? Nice! Please keep us posted on development. I use a separate recorder a lot so a weatherproof-ish slot cover would be useful...

just curious

Just curious but do strong magnetic forces have any effect on the media in flash based media?
