  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock microRemote?

I thought they were going to start shipping June 1st, but I guess they meant start taking pro-orders. I thought that I had pre-ordered years ago when I was on the reservation list early. I re-confirmed my reservation in April I think. In June I confirmed my order. I'm now reading about shipped units out in the field and how great it is, but they won't even tell me where about in the line I am...
Their Community Forum has been down for months. Better communication would be nice. Brian, are you there?

His update was on 8/2 and he said they were "spinning up production" on whatever solution they had for the delay with motors... after 3 weeks you'd think that would be in effect and there would be an update... however, like I said, I'm not surprised. Pretty disappointed in general with how the whole MicroRemote thing has been handled from day one.

Hi all,

Thanks for the bump. More shipped this week, and even more next week. It's look like all backorders should be shipped and cleared by mid-September, should all things continue as they are currently going.

Recently used and worked well on the Red 18-50/Scarlet among other lenses, FYI

Cheers

Continuing shipping this week, slowly speeding up....

Got mine today. Got a steadicam gig this weekend. Can't wait to use. Making my AC practice all week.

Well the shoot feel thru but I have got to play with the unit a little bit and I am very impressed. Setting up the calibration on my Canon L series lenses is a dream. I think with practice it will be easier to pull focus from the remote than hands on.

Got my microRemote yesterday, and it has worked flawlessly so far. I wish there was a native 19mm mount for the motor (the 15mm mount looks easily swapped out). For now I put a WC bolt-on 15mm rod ($20) on a WC bent rail mount ($20) and screwed that onto a Manfrotto Nanoclamp ($30). The total of $70 was a lot cheaper than the various 19mm to 15mm adapters that Google listed for me.

Anyhow, the microRemote itself seems like an impressive value. Smooth (no stepping that I have observed so far), plenty of torque for my Nikon and Zeiss lenses, simple to calibrate, good build quality, good range. The controller is large, but feels good to use. I wish it had a 1/4-20" mounting point so I could easily combine it with a SmallHD and a RedMote...

Looking forward to the touchscreen controller - given that Apple approval of the hardware is holding up the release, maybe RedRock will consider Android or WinPhone8 instead? Apple's "walled garden" is an unwelcome impediment from my perspective...

Got mine delivered yesterday too on my birthday.. Thanks RedRock for the awesome present! This thing rocks it works flawlessly.. The finger wheel is awesome for those of us that shoot without a 1st AC.
Very easy to use and to set-up. I'm very pleased with the quality and the price.

Happy birthday John! Glad we could make it just a bit better:)

Tim, there is a 1/4"-20 on the wireless handheld controller, it's on the bottom. The piece that attaches the lanyard is a 1/4"-20 screw, so you can unscrew that and build away! Be sure to put up photos of any interesting setups you come up with.

Cheers

I solved the 19mm problem with a dog bone from Jerry Hill. I asked him to replace the bolt with a kipp handle for the 19mm lock, and add a 19-15mm reducer bushing in case I need to mount the motor on 15mm-studio setups. I think this is the cleanest, quickest, and most adaptable option for the Redrock motors.

Mine has arrived, and it was worth the wait. The build quality IS impressive. I haven't had a chance to do extended line of sight range testing, but I still have control over lens from another room through a beefy wall (about 40 feet away). The only complaint I have really so far is that the receiver has no power switch. The power cable has to be unplugged when not in use to keep the battery from draining. Having a power switch would have added a little to the size and weight, but, hey, it's already small and lightweight.

Matthew,

I've seen a few people use that dogbone from Mr. Hill. It works well for the time and helps compensate for the extra rail to lens distance in a 19mm system when using not-so-large lenses as opposed to just a standard 19mm clamp on the motor.

Paul,

Glad you to are liking the system. We're all really proud of how the system has turned out. The praise means a lot coming from a seasoned steadicam operator as yourself!
