  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO MINI - WHO WANTS IT - VOTE HERE !

Not adaptor-less. The idea is that the Pro I/O Mini would BE the adaptor. Thus rather than being a featureless mechanical converter that has to be screwed to the back of the camera before you can add modules, it would complete the camera with XLRs and a much needed second EVF/LCD connector, and have the quick release connector ready for any module on the back. Thus for most configurations except super light ones, you'd leave it screwed on most of the time ready to immediately accept modules.

Right... What he/I said.

Perhaps the way to look at this is as a compact solution for situations where the longer build out is problematic. Even if it had to be a bit thicker than Toia's mock up it could still be great.

I agree with those who would like to see a D-tap (P-tap?) plug and I would suggest a v-mount on the back. Yes, I realize the v-mount would end the module add on capability but I see this as an option for staying small but still having key needs met. If you need more IO, a Meizler, lots of RedVolt power, etc then pull out the module adapter and rock on.

I'll take 2 of each today.
I'd even settle for mini XLR inputs. I Know.. I know...

I have to disagree.

I want what's in Marks picture. IMHO...any thicker and it's not really "mini" anymore. Also... Jarred has said that the prototype for the V-mount add-on that passes the power through the modular pins is almost fully baked and ready for testing (I hope IT has a D-Tap built in). These two items, it seems to me, would be the perfect lightweight set-up AND it would still allow for quick expansion.

I'm in for at least 2. This would be the very very very best thing to happen to Epic. And I agree it should replace the adaptor plate, which is annoying annoying annoying. Or make a new back for Epic that replaces the adaptor plate. All the adaptor gives you is receivers for those two stubs, and the extra weight and space is not needed. I think it was a holdover from when Scarlet and Epic were to be two different sizes, and the adaptor was to make modules work on each.

But back to topic. Mini I/O would totally rock, and it can't be that hard to do.

Ned,
I dont like the RED LCD, so i only use the EVF.
To control camera i only use REDMOTE.
So with my setup i have EVF in Lemo, on board SMALL LCD HMDI & i have the HDSI BNC output for video village.......all sorted.......and two Audio XLR's.......
cheers
paul

This sounds good. Do you ever run into HDMI connection issues with small HD. Any special cable recommendations for hdmi?

To be fair to Blair, what Mark has pictured IS a bit thicker than the existing adapter as the latter is barely the thickness of a full sized XLR, so would need to be a bit thicker to house one. But it would only need to be maybe a quarter inch thicker. I think we're all on the same page here, and you're right about the new proposed V-mount module. With these two added to our bag of tricks, it would open up a lot of lightweight, cable-free possibilities.

Ah. I misunderstood. ...sorry Blair.

Yup. ...a little thicker than the current adaptor but no thicker than necessary to accommodate the XLR port.

It's probably a bit harder to engineer than any of us imagine, but a no-brainer if it can be done.

Iam also with Toya on this. Making a small camera ,only to change it into something large and even Square large is a very bad idea.
I would also add that having everything integraded in one module that cannot be splitted is also a bad idea , because of all these features included, so for example
if you have a problem with the wireless and needs to be repaired, you have to send it all back, and you will be left with out a wireless FIZ, and all the rest of the features.
The best would be to have small modules that they lock to each other and can work with or with out the others, so if something happens they can be removed with out affecting the rest of them.
My 2 cents.

Ah shit I just bought the Pro IO just because of audio. Do you think anyone will buy it from me, if this piece comes out? :)

Mark, you are a genius.

Mark, you are a genius.

Exactly what we need.

Hopefully Jim and the boys are listening!!!
