Could be anywhere in the world today.
As you know I have a few EPIC kits, Big ones and small ones.
My personal kit (for private shooting) is a CANON setup.
My work kit is a PL mount production setup, with all the bells an whistles...
And now I have a small light weight PL kit that I thought I'd make up, for those hand held type jobs. (not shoulder mounted) just art photography style cinematography gigs were I either shoot in the hand or on a mono pod. My Fav.

Anyways... I purchased this little converted NIKON 80 to 200 from a fellow off the forum, Tom Lowe I think use to own it before him. So its done the rounds. I think both of them were not that impressed with it, maybe they were wanting more from it? not sure. But for the price, it seriously dishes out some nice images. Its a little sweet heart to be honest, It has a little bit of bloom at 200mm @F2.8 wide open, but is still pin sharp... and a reverse focus (which I have gotten use to quite quickly, ( its just a case of flipping your brain for a minute ) but other than that, its a little ripper. And being a stills stills, the focus is to short.... same issue with the canon lens. I'm so glad I hunted one down though as what can you buy PL for under 3k @ 2.8 from 80 to 200mm and give you pin sharp images...... Nothing.
It certainly complements the little Ziess mark III super speeds in this kit, and it still keeps everything nice and small.

I'm currently shooting a job with this lens as a test to see how it handles in the field ( on a real job that is ) It's almost become the principal lens. :) Funny how that happens.

Nikon all the way....cant believe you talked my flatmate into a Canon DSLR *Cough cough

Where can you get those babys converted ? I have the most recent 80-200VRII and would love to use it on my Epic ^^
how's the lens mount handling the weight though ? Weight wise this has to be the Primo Zoom of the photography world, one heavy mother.

hahahahha... Sorry Dom, Leon had already decided what he wanted, I just wanted him to purchase the correct lenses to get him started. I do wish him the best though.
Regarding weight... mate, the Camera does not even feel it on the end. Its lighter than the Canon ZOOM. Titanium PL epic mounts are tough as hell. I hang a 300 2.8 off it no problems at all.

What's the max weight you'd put on your Epic (without support)?

*PL - that is!

he's already shooting some nice clean stuff....gonna take me a while to get used to coming home into a house of a canon shooter though *sigh
damn thats impressive with the weight. Does anyone know where I can get Nikon glass converted to PL ?

Yes ! Ita hard to go backwards once you have shot with an EPIC... But still bang for buck, the little canons cameras are sweet for the price.

Hi Mark,
Dose your 80-200 PL lens hold focus through zoom? because Nikon 80-200 doesn`t.

Seems too.... I've noted all lenses are different. Stills lenses are consistently not the same.

Yet at the same time, It wouldn't worry me if it did, I never ZOOM while shooting anyway :)) One day I might, but after 15 years of shooting , i think Ive done a Zoom shot once.

Hey Mark, I rarely post in the forums unless something really stands out to me and as usual its your work. The lens is gorgeous, but its merely a brush as your composition and ability to use the camera is that of a painter in my opinion. I'm a big fan of your work and find a lot of inspiration with the images you create. Thanks for being so active in the forums with your findings.

Best,

like the out of focus look of the lens as well. I think we will see some nice images once the red nikon mount comes out as well.. The focus throw of the lenses is a bit short but with ff's like the o focus which modify the ratio things get a bit easier.

Any time John. :) Sharings caring.

Got that exact lens geared up etc, but just in standard Nikon mount...i absolutely love it. At the moment i throw on a $40 Canon adapter and it works perfectly on my EPIC...and just leave it in Nikon mount and it slots straight onto my F3 for the jobs without more budget and straight up workflow...oh, and my 5D as a B/C camera. I love Nikon, more so than Canon glass and this one is a ripper! I have a Canon mount for my EPIC but i'm still hooked on Nikon, horses for courses:)

This is one of the early Duclos conversions so I'm pretty sure it's been modified to hold focus. I ueed one for my short at the begining of the year. It's a perfect compliment to my 16-42 & 30-80 Optimos.
Truly a great optic but the 70-200 VRII surpasses it.

Here it is doing a fake arial...
