  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

NAB... Monday morning.

Thank ya sir. So bummed I'm not making it out to NAB this year, but I'll happily be spending money with you guys early Monday morning heh

Hello Jarred. Does that mean we can buy and take home the new aluminum Canon mount at NAB on Monday?

Ivan - I just might get the 24, 35, and 85 on your recommendation. Will I be sorry? lol

No, but I'd add something longer, and something wider. 16-35 is not half bad, but you need to find a good copy - QC is a real problem with all Canon glass - better to buy in a brick and mortar store where you can test/exchange.

Is it only Canon and Sigma lenses that are programmed and supported for the Canon mount, or is it possible that a lens like the new, and as yet unavailable, Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD might be programmed and fully supported? The improved algorithms in 3.0.6 make auto focus an even more useful feature and something to consider when buying lenses.

We are starting with the best lenses.. then trickling down to everything else. Whatever name is on the lens makes no difference.

is this list being updated? or is there a current list somewhere of lenses that are characterized, or scheduled to be?

trying to think about new lenses and the redmote pro... any suggestions? :)

-Here is a list of Canon lenses that have been programed into the mount/ Epic Brain. These still need to be characterized for fine-tuned autofocus as they all have different motor speeds etc., but they are and will be functional out of the gate when the Canon mount ships.

Image Stabilization is functional on the entire stabilized lens lineup.

I received my Canon mount yesterday and I have to say it's so awesome. It took me two minutes to install the mount on the Epic and I started shooting immediately. I can't believe I waited this long. And yes I know I'm a little late to the game but the possibilities for filmmakers with this mount is quite unbelievable. having the lenses pre-programmed and being able to see my depth of field on the monitor is so incredible. I used the Red One with the Birger mount for years so I'm just here to celebrate. Anyways 5k is a dream come true now. Thank you.

lensrentals ran some quick tests, and the Tamron 24-70 comes out well ahead of the old Canon 24-70 in every focus test:

http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/04/quick-tamron-24-70-mtf-data

I've seen some other tests where edge focus was much better on the Tamron than the existing Canon.

The image stabilization works quite well, here are some comparisons to the existing Canon 24-70:

and this shows opening the box, and build quality:

This lens would be great to have for RED Canon mount users.

RED would benefit as the sharper images, and clearer stabilized images, would show off the capabilities of RED's sensor and R3D algorithms for user posted videos.

Hi guys,

Does the Canon 600mm 1:4 L IS USM have aperture control?? I thought I've had it before but no luck now.

In a Scarlet with the latest firmware - 3.2.8

On location. Any tips??
cheers
wes

Roll back to release firmware. You are on a shoot far far away (nalu). And your on beta.....
There has been some talk of a few lenses that did work that are now playing up.
So are you still getting some waves.

Cheers! Chris

Roger!

Rolled back to release build v3.0.7 but this didn't work - but then tried going well back to v2.0.5 and bingo!!! So back in action

Thanks Chris

PS - my shoulders are sore

What's the "best" lens?
