  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEARN- REDCINE-X PRO : AUDIO SYNC

Great tutorial. Loving these. Didn't know you could right click and create tabs on the right!!! Thanks!

:))

Would be great to follow this up with an on-camera tutorial on syncing camera with external Sound Recording devises through use of the Sync Port on the EPIC/Scarlet.

;)

I LOVE the auto match. Used it on every feature so far, of course only after being told it "isn't possible" by post houses. usually the way it goes with red of course. Red has made my life so easy dealing with post. and yet so hard dealing with post. hahaha

I just finished syncing an entire feature manually (no timecode assist, matching slate only) in RCX. Theres a few things id like to change, but overall, it was a pretty straightforward experience. Just make sure you know, aparrently that sync information is stored in the RMD, not the RCX file.

Learned that one the very hard way.

Still trying to find the best solution to get a shotgun mic in my Epic and recording audio to it. Am going to pitch a documentary where I need to go solo in some situations and would really like (need) to be able to record audio on board. I can see the wrokflow is great but would certainly like to see a simple solution from Red for this, like Red did with the XLR cables! I can't go Wooden Camera and their shoe mount because they require Paypal and where I am Paypal doesn't work... Jarred, any chance for an official Red shoe mount or XLR shotgun mounting configuration for stealth, documentary filmmaking?

And sorry for the slight derail, excellent tutorial. Please do more!

Ill make sure all these videos get on our Vimeo channel for you iPad guys.

Great to see all these "little" things are seeping into RCX. Now, how about that ability to batch export with custom names based upon metadata like scene, take etc.? That would rock for creating dailies in RCX.

And this app costs what? $500? $1,500? No. It's free. With updates every other week. Awesome.

The tech support too. Mindblowing what those guys do for me on a daily basis, and I cant imagine im the only guy emailing in all the stuff i notice about the program... As a D.I.T. On RED shows (98% of what I do these days) I spend pretty much my whole day in Redcine... The software I use to download cost more than the tool i use to evaluate, playback, grade, log, sync, and export!

In this regard, the other camera mfg. could learn a thing or two about making their camera usable. Costs me insane $$$ to buy independent (read: buggy/unusable) software from boutique companies to deal with Alexa footage, say. Or even crazier amounts of money to buy "reliable" software. The prohibitive cost barrier to entry is one of the reasons I am less likely to want to take gigs with other systems.

Although i will say, if the F65 werent such an expensive paperweight at the moment ( from my hands on experience playing with the thing), i would be really happy with their very free and usable ipad app for controlling the camera. And in fact i was when the dinky wireless adapter decided to work ;D

... Theres a lot more i have to say on this really, but the post quickly turned into a Redcine feature request list... So i trimmed it here... ill just post it in the redcine workflow forum if im not too lazy...

:D

thanks Dan, keep em coming! super informative. I'm not going to complain about an iPad version, my 8 yr old hid it from me!

This coupled with the Meiszler module or Pro I/O will stave off grey hair for me by at least 10 years. Killer efficiency---beats the pants off of PluralEyes, FCP X auto match, or manual timecode sync!

Wouldn't play for me on a 2 month old i7 laptop, Windows 7 64, Internet Explorer. Plays using Google Chrome.

Doesn't your Production Mixer deal with the sound half of the project?
