Although I agree with everything posted here and have always been "fair" in my pricing - isn't it the free market at work? If an item is not available anywhere (i.e. backordered) and you need the item now - if someone charges you double - and you are willing to pay it (because it fulfills your need at the time) then that IS what it is worth. It can't be compared to the price of the backordered item because you are being offered it "now". You are paying to get it "now". So if someone is asking for an unrealistic price - don't pay it. If you really need it and can't get it anywhere else - then that is what the item is worth.
... perhaps in the spirit of the "community" we should start an accessories fair rental initiative, locally.
supply and demand! & if the "back order" demands it, the greedy supplier will profit from it. It does go towards character in the end though and I think there is more to life than buying something for a dollar and selling it for two. Like helping a fellow man instead of kicking him when down.
I want a side handle badly as mine is back ordered still! BUT I refuse to pay more than what the seller got it for and saw a few go by but I held my ground.
I'll say be patient, back order is almost over, rent or borrow what you don't have... perhaps in the spirit of the "community" we should start an accessories fair rental initiative, locally.
One word of caution: the "rental initiative" stinks of price fixing, and that's illegal. Be very careful.
Those are rental prices for packages already publicly listed on the internet. Nothing wrong with sharing that at all. Not sure if this* was added as a response to your comment, but I think the list is great.
*This rate sheet is for reference only. Add gear/prices as you see fit, but ensure prices accurately reflect fair Rental House pricing.
Whatever Doug, I just felt caution was in order. Put as many ****disclaimers as you like on there, but if you were perceived as recruiting people to refer to this list, and someone felt just the slightest bit intimidated they could cry coercion and you could find yourself in a world of serious shit.
Best of luck.

Your whatever has been noted, Scott. Thanks for the input- will keep it in mind! I didn't write the list, nor recruit anyone to fix their pricing because that's illegal.
Just curious, but what's your stance on the Rent Me app?
I downloaded it. I like it. I might use it. I have other business software that does the same thing, just not on my phone. It's a tool that applies a simple, common formula. It looks like good business. Everyone plugs in their own numbers. It doesn't suggest numbers for you. Are you going to suggest that the app and the list are in some way the same?
Making you wait for your side handle does not say anything about character.
Believe it or not it's called the film business for a reason. It's a business. People may love what they do and choose from time to time to help other people out, but people also want to make money so that they can pay their bills, feed their families and buy more gear. When they choose to profit and when they choose not to is their choice. What is a fair price? Like any commodity it's what people are willing to pay. Is Apple stock worth $552/share? Yup. Because someone paid it.
Somehow you feel that you are entitled to have these people sell you their property at the price you choose. Sorry dude, it just doesn't work that way. They can choose to keep it, try and sell it for a million bux, or drive over it with their car.
You are not entitled to a side handle - it is not a basic human right. So you can either choose to do without, or choose to pay the going rate. Either way, suck it up and show some character.

Well, there is no mention of birth right or entitlement in my comment but rather human decency and choice and if one is in the business of profit then cudo, please feed your family and buy more to sale higher that is your choice and I chose to wait and pay the set price when items becomes available, that my friend I am entitled to.
I was merely saying that if someone has a commodity they have no need or use for and a fellow red user is in need of that commodity. The decent thing to do is at least sale it for the value you bought it for, the same market value that the manufacture assigned it to.
It seem that this RED community is built on the notion of sharing & supporting but not when it comes to the market place. People in unfortunate circumstances are forced to sale their epic-x package for half of what it is worth and buyers are paying double for rare commodity! There is no decency in greed.
Scott, so you thing $1850 is a fair realistic price for a side handle? Even if this person has multiple? Even if they stated they could sell it for $1250 but the hassle of shipping is worth the difference? I TOTALLY agree with you, all is fair in the market place. Again, This thread is ONLY meant to discuss the why and why not of attitude, here in the RED community.
Nope, just curious.
