Am I the only one that misses the quicktime proxies from the Redone workflow on their EPIC/SCARLET?

Please REd, I know this might not be a priority, but I find it a gigantic draw back on the EPIC workflow.

I have used the final cut proxy editing to Color r3d final output intensively. And I think it is a great workjfloow. I saves tones and tones of not only GB and $ for not creating offlines and I was able to open independent proxies without having to open Red cine.

Don't get me wrong, I think RedcineX is great, but it is so difficult to even do a 1 light grade since I don't even have an output to my Matrox so grading is very difficult. Not to mention the gamma issues from quicktime.

I find that with the EPIC we got an incredible improvement in camera hardware and image, but a terrible workflow loss. I know FCP 7 and Color are going dead, but thousands of people still use them and even if I moved into premier, I know still a lot of my clients will edit in FCP.

Please bring back the quicktime proxies.

Thank you,

Ivan C.

Not at all! I'm on the same boat. Drop the proxies and edit on the fly reconnect later and output. Hopefully the next build.

RED said they were working on getting proxies back for DSMCs so you will be able to edit proxies in FCPs once released. But Color does not support R3D files from those camera and most likely never will has it is now a discontinued product...

I agree proxies were useful in some cases but that won't bring back

It is quite unfortunate situation the whole Color discontinuation.

In my case the workflow is so cumbersome now.

First I have a Matrox02 that cannot use either with Davinci or RedcineX.

Second, in order to use Davince, unless I misread, you need special Nvidia cards. No luck here, Atis on my Mac. And even If I had one, I'd need their Aja cards to be able to use a broadcast monitor, and I woudn't be able to use HDMI monitors for basic grading.

I'm pretty lost in here. I just really hope that at least the future Speedgrade coming to Adobe will support Matrox cards.

It really sucks all of this. At least I wish Redcine would be compatible with Matrox.

Honestly, having worked with native R3D clips for almost 2 years now, I've had proxies disabled the whole time. I can't imagine going back to working with offline footage. I think just about every editing suite except apple has enabled native r3d editing, with varying degrees of quality, but you can always finish in resolve so that evens everything out. FCP and FCX are great editors, but a bit cumbersome if you are working with RED. But to each their own.

With the new release for FCS3 just go to RCX and export QT wrappers (QT ref movie) and write them back to the source directory. This should then work fine.

yes, finally it is pretty good.

The only problem now is the crappy fcp 7 that the rt system kind of sucks. If you just put the M or P of a 5K full frame you need to render. I have discovered that if you put the P on a 1920 x 1080 sequence proress 4444 and scale the clip to fit full frame, then it works. Playback is pretty bad though. something like 18frames per second. But it is great that REd did it. If definitively brings back the proxy workflow again.

THANKS A LOT RED. I wish Apple would do the same and work a bit more... :-/
