i had a 30" apple monitor it fell and cracked. so now im looking to buy a television as a replacement maybe 2. 42" or better. IS THIS A GOOD IDEA? i would really appreciate any advice i have a mac pro 8 core with raden graphics card. i was able to have 2 apple 30" monitors with this set up.

thanks a lot

The mac 30's are the best! I love them.

Here is a tip, we put in the latest SAMSUNG LED... (as a client monitor) We Push a single HDMI single out through a HDMI AMP.. and you get 6 HDMI signals all clean as a whistle!
But the SAMSUNG monitor is amazing.. compared to the early ones, the colour and gamma settings are amazingly perfect.
For a simple domestic TV, they are worth looking at... and we are grading with it now... but never would have 2 years ago.

Here is the screen Im taking about.

But thats only if your after a TV monitor...

PRO monitors are even better (smaller)... but far more expensive. :)

What about calibration Mark ? Most people use Panasonic Plasma, never seen a led being used.

i thought plasma burns a image in the screen. is this good for a computer monitor?

I don't see the issue if you're using it as a full-screen playback & grading monitor. Obviously there shouldn't be any GUI stuff on that monitor.

Ibrahim-
Maybe you need to clarify just what you want this monitor/TV to DO? If its for grading/evaluation, you need to be pretty picky because this requires a monitor you can set for correct color output. Maybe some of the really new higher end home-TVs like Mark is suggesting might be capable of this. But up to now it took some pretty expensive broadcast-type monitors to do this properly.
BUT-
if you are looking for just an "Interface" monitor to display the GUI, then just about any $500 plasma or LED will do that no problem.
Just be aware any playback images shown on it will be wildly inaccurate to judge corrected output of your final image. I've use a 37" Westinghouse LCD (yep, the folks who made your parent's refridge!) for my main Mac editing-interface monitor for YEARS and its FABULOUS. But its color accuracy is laughable.
So really depends what you expect the TV to do...

Are you supposed to enter somtheing in the camera before being able to output through HDMI to a TV? I recieved my Scarlet yesterday and I couldn't output any signal.

Var sikker paa at det er et 720p eller 1080p LCD. Ellers maa man bruge det dumme HDMI.

I agree with mark,
Some of the new consumer stuff is far better than some a few years old pro stuff... One thing I hate with the samsungs is that they take such long time to find the signal. When camera is connected it takes like 7 seconds before the picture is there, it's no problem if you know if but it makes rental people starting to rip all cabling apart trying to "find the error" pro monitors are more snappy in that regard.

It is a 1080p TV, so can't I just use my ordinary HDMI-cable?

yeah, dont quote me though but I believe you must enable hdmi out in the camera menu to setup the output.

I just received my Scarlet one week ago...
Can't see anything using a TV as monitor. LG 3D recent model, perfectly accepting 1080p.
Tried and tried again, following the procedure step by step, restarting when useful and so on... Impossible !
Brand new HDMI cable.
Has somebody had the same problem ?

Couldn't you use something like the ColorMunki to get more fairly acurate colors or is that still going to be too far off?
