  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

r3d Data Epic Flare Guard

We have a field solution and a permanent solution soon to be released. Both at no charge... as you would expect from us.

BTW... R3D is a registered trademark of RED. And we need to protect our trademarks or they have no value. I guess this is a warning off the bow.

We do not recommend a flocking solution as it can shed into the low pass filter.

We do. That's why we love the company you founded. And the products you create. :)

Just get a little nervous when we encounter radio silence ;) Like going to the dark side of the moon.

That's great Jim. This 'issue' has been around for quite a while now, is there an indication on when your fix may make it into the hands of us owners? I don't really want to be flocking my camera but if it's going to be a while these instant but temporary fixes might be the way to go for the time being.

Very soon...

Thanks Mr Jannard. Is the permanent solution related at all to the previously mentioned interchangeable internal ND ? It seemed to me that the filter tray area was the place to look for a solution, and I'm glad either way that you have it :)

Just checking in on this thread since it's a week old, flare guard is needed.

Is this something that will be installed at Red?

Great reassurance, Jim.
It made my day...I love this company.
I was tempted to go with a 3rd party solution for about one second, but figured out that flock and sensor do not go together very well. Now you clarified the situation. Thank you!

Agreed, hopefully since Jim posted that was "very soon" a week ago that we are any day from it.

Does this mean R3D is owned by RED or that R3D is using a trademarked name?

EPIC M Heat Sinks

EPIC M Heat Sinks

On another note only related to "things to be fixed later" Is there any official word on when the M's will get new heat sinks and any other updated hardware due to updates/fixes to EPIC X ?

Thanks in advance,
