  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone have experience with the new release of Neat Video? ...especially as compared to other denoising packages (Resolve, Nuke, Video Purifier etc.)
 
I have found MCTemporalDenoise (an AVISynth script) provides far and away the best noise reduction. Of course, it is difficult to use considering it doesn't have a GUI, and some settings are deathly slow. But remarkably effective when correctly configured, with much less unwanted loss of detail the commercial alternatives bring about.

Makes you wonder why one of the companies offering inferior solutions doesn't just buy it and put their GUI in front of it.

I wonder that a lot with software.

Why is foobar2000 massively better than any commercially available music player, for example.
 
Neat Video 3 also runs faster and slightly "cleaner" than it's previous version, which is nice when using it on 4k+ material.
 
what software are you guys using neat video with nowadays? I have v2 with FCP, but since it's a dying NLE i wonder how may people chose premiere, and how many went with after effects. wish they'd come out with one for avid now.
 
Just installed Neat Video in FCP yesterday. Really great results on S16film to HD transfer with fairly quick render time.

I've been using it for a while with Premiere Pro and After Effects. Minus some higher end compositing tools, I haven't really found anything better.
 
It's annoying that it's not universal through CS, I have Neat 3 for after effects because that is where I use it more often, but there are times when it would be handy to have it in Prem too.

Maybe it's me but I just use Premiere for editing and everything else is done in After Effects. Denoising is something that I associate with CC and comping part.

Which one iste Red Giant one is that De:noise? Whichever it is, it works great but even with the update I can't get it to work without crashing, it's a pity because it works nicely. Neat Video 3 doesn't slow my system down so I can skim through clips without it taking 10secs to think everytime I move the time indicator. The remove grain in after effects isnt that bad—used lightly—but it is slow.
 
These test are nice, I have been using neat for sometime. I have to say that these tests have no detail such as hair, skin, leaves etc. etc. etc. So a real life test would be better because from my experience even with neat you easily loose small details to loose noise.
 
I'll probably pick up the AE version, don't wanna put ne more into FCP, and not a fan of using premiere for a NLE. I only use it on occasion, solely for the render engine for quicktime creation. Long form stuff I'm switching to avid, looks like AE is the only choice for just select shots in need to scrub.
