  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET X WITH A 20K BUDGET

Speaking of post production systems. I have a 27" Imac with 4gb of ram (soon to be 8gb) and an I7 with a TB hd. Will this allow me to handle the R3D files? I have FCP and AVID on my system.

I am also creating a similar package Chris but I also have to include lenses. Have you considered a MB and FollowFocus? The ones I am considering are the Oconnor MB and the RR blue follow focus.

I have my eye on this shoulder mount - looks well built, at a reasonable price, have not heard any feedback from anyone though. My only concern with this is the height of the riser - when using the LCD top mounted. Hoping for a way to mount the LCD upside down off to the side.

Looks nice, but you would like to adjust the front handles. Especially for longer shots.
It's always nice to lower your arms for some times ^^

What kind of filming/photography do you do?

That will help us answer.

Shorts, pilots, small sketches, and commercials mainly. I don't see anything i shoot going over 25mins anytime in the near future.

As for my photography, i'll mainly use it for fashion/portrait work, with the occasional landscape/street here and there

I think 64 GB SSDs are too small, if you shoot HDR, you'll get 20 minutes on a card...

Cheers,
Damien

I definitely see what you mean, but at the 64GB (4-pack) price point, $3250.00 - $30 for the case = $3220.00/4(each mag) = $805 per mag is really good, and being able to rotate them will be useful.

Chris:

What I'm getting:

SCARLET-X W/ AL CANON MOUNT / SIDE SSD $9,750
DSMC SIDE HANDLE $950
RED TOUCH 5.0" LCD $1,600
REDMAG 64GB (4-PACK) $3,250
REDVOLT (4-PACK) $750.00
DSMC TRAVEL CHARGER $125.00
RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" $250.00
RED ARM (5") $120.00
DSMC TACTICAL TOP PLATE $300.00
DSMC TACTICAL RIBCAGE SET (LEFT) $525.00
MOUNTING PLATE (DSMC) $100.00
QUICK RELEASE PLATFORM (BOLT-ON) $600

Sub-Total- $18,320

Then, add the extras, like a new PC ($4,000), lenses ($5-$10K) and a shoulder mount rig ($2-$5K) and then you're all set....

WOW, huh? I must admit that I've thought about just spending 1/4 of this to upgrade my existing HDSLR rig and and add some Zeiss glass and nice lights and be done with it....but RED lures me and I can't help it. Hopefully my wife will still have me after I'm broke.

Thanks for the update Marcos! I'm going to see if i could split a 4 pack of 256GB SSD, if i get one that will be the same amount of space and i'll be saving a bunch = more gear! :)

Scarlet X Brain Package $9,750.00, Red Station 1.8" reader $250.00, 4 REDMAG 64GB SSD (4-pack) $3,250.00, Side Handle $950.00, DSMC Travel Charger $125.00, Redvolt (4-pack) $750.00, OUTRIGGER HANDLE $350.00, 3BNC-TO-00 SYNC CABLE $100.00.

I might loose the Outrigger handle and just opt for the production pack. Got to find a hd monitor.
