Battery Options for the Scarlet X

I read in the response of an earlier post that the redvolt battery only powers for 25 minutes and takes two hours to charge.

In some cases that might not work

What would be some low cost options to power the camera other redvolt and ac?

Red volts actually last longer on Scarlet because of the reduced processing power going on. I would expect around 40 minutes. maybe more

Where is this option to set to "reduced power setting"? if so, it should be on epic as well yes? but i've not seen it on my epics....but that might be because i've no searched all of the menu options....but please more info........

The Scarlet uses a little less power than the epic because it has less processing power.

Anyone knows if and when the quad battery module will become available for the scarlet? Right now I only see it available for the Epic X package. Looks like a pricey but great solution to invest in later (after i'm done paying off my debt for scarlet to the local mafia, crazy interest)

I've been considering a 90Wh Bebob battery with a 4xHirose connector 7.2/12V power distribution solution and a 15 mm rod mount:

The max load on the battery has been limited to 12A. My other gear that need power are a TV Logic VFM-056WP field monitor (9 watts max) and Sound Devices MixPre-D field mixer.

The field monitor accepts 6-12V and the field mixer accepts 10-18V.

Epic draws max 12 amps and accepts 11.5V - 17V. Not sure how much Scarlet draws.

I wonder if I could power Scarlet, MixPre-D and VFM-056WP with this single Li-Mangan battery?

If you go with RedBricks from the Ground up ... the Ceapest Setup would be:

$550 Charger
$290 Belt V-Mount
$900 for 2 Bricks

This would cost $1740 and power the Scarlet for around 3 Hours
In these 3 Hours you can recarge one Brick. Total Power on the
RedBrick Solution: 4.5 Hours

For the $1740 you could also get 9 Redvolts. Their Power would last for 3.75 Hours
In these 3.75 Hours you get 2 Redvolts recharged ... so the Redvolt-Solution
would sustain Power for 4.5 Hours

ergo: Same Running Times.

The Brick would be a nice Counterweight for handheld Rigs
The Redvolt has a small and therefore portable recharger

Any other considerations that would make one Solution stand out?

I've ordered 3 Global Media Pro 160wh Batteries and Charger for around $1100. Plus a Switronix RED battery plate, and a red cable to hook up the r1 connection to the Epic power connector, thats another $340

Thats the cheapest solution I could find.

Does the Switronix RED plate screw right on to the back of Epic/Scarlet? Or do you need some other sort of mounting option, like either a Rail setup or a cheeseplate? If so, for anyone starting out from scratch, you'd have to add the cost of the rails/cheeseplate.


For now, I've decided that, since I'm getting the Red Side Handle anyway (more reliable than the RedMote, cheaper or equal to the 5" Touch LCD + Another sort of handle be it top or side so that I can grab the danged thing) I'm going to get some RedVolts to start, and use AC power as much as possible. I have some super-compact setup ideas that I'll be toying around with for a while, so I'll always want to have a RedVolt or two on hand.

That, plus a few batteries and charger, will run me somewhere in the vicinity of $1500. Since I, personally, am getting a Side Handle either way, RedVolts are cheaper for me, to start.

True... all my rails and the back to the battery are all custom made, I didn't account for that.

Sascha, good calculations there. Makes sense.

It'll actually be a bit cheaper if one were to purchase the Redbricks or Redvolts used also. Just something else to consider.

So I am wondering I will blow my yet to be purchased Scarlet up , if I go with this configuration !

I have an IDX v-mount battery setup and am wondering if using an IDX plate I already have

There is a 4 pin XLR on the plate uesed with the red XLR power cable should do it.
My concern was with the voltage from the brick to the cam, I am thinking there should be
some sort of regulator !

I just got off the phone with Kathy at IDX. I forwarded your BH link Troy...Is that an LCD plate? If so, she confirmed that it probably WILL NOT work. It won't handle the Epic's / Scarlet voltage requirements.

IDX also informed me that the RedBricks were glitchy. Because of the short warranty term, RB owners have contacted IDX complaining SOME units (RedBricks) will not charge. Same goes with the faulty chargers. This is straight from Kathy at IDX. She's actually meeting w/ 3Ality next week to check out their plate.

Lastly, I'm going the APU route. From what I've heard, their IDX Mods are superb. I'm also going to use the Endura E-Lites...It has a module built in that will send the metering signal to the RED LCD.

Yeah, I got an email of your psot before your edit, and to be a second backup, yes, they were built to show the % left on the red one, so thye will work with scarlet/epic

Thats was my worry , yes this is an IDX plate for a panasonic monitor , My thinking was I could have a reliable and long lasting battery source
for the cost of one cable !! $ 120 I think.
The Brooks does look robust + it has an extra d-tap perfect
