im very happy with specs and price!!! and i believe there are hundreds of people like me out there who is happy with scarlet news
THANKS RED TEAM THANKS JIM...i love you guys

Let us cry .... Please ... We also have right to be sad ...

I love scarlet x ... But its trageted for different cutomer base

exactly. just because you are happy doesn't mean we have to. so stop annoying us... pleeeease!!!!

I agree, this bashing against people here who want 2/3 sensor should stop right now.

You'll see that using a S35 sensor & 4K/5K data is a WHOLE new world : S35 is bulky, it requires lot a storage space, top lenses, a good follow-focus with a cam assistant and many other things to comply with. I was very interested by large DOF, especially for a 3D rig. Too bad.

They have done this on cost basis I think. It's much cheaper for a company to develop just one type of camera than several variations. The 2/3" would have suited ENG camera operators. The price is still competitive in it's market range, but it's not the industry destroyer RED led us to believe. I think take up will be low because of RED cutting out the 2/3" Scarlet. Many of those people waiting to buy a 2/3" Scarlet will now be looking at other cameras. If you are looking for an alternative then take a look at the new Canon EOS 1D X. I'm sure RED will change their mind one day, but I have certainly stopped hoping for a RED camera for now. Not everyone wants 4K. Television is only just slowly moving over to HD in the UK. DVCAM is still being used for recording news items!! 4K television is at least a decade or more away.

Others to consider:
Sony NEX-FS100EK
Panasonic AG-AF101

Dude it shoots 4k, it is an industry destroyer...What else can shoot 4k? F65? For 65 grand... Good luck on that Sony... Even the Alexa will get pwned by the Scarlet X! 120,000 is a lot of money for those specs! The big guys just can't compete

I honestly think Red should have notified us when they decided to ditch the 2/3" Scarlet, which I doubt just happened 1 week before this announcement.

The Sony offers a better sensor than the AF101, especially in low light conditions. I'm seriously thinking about buying a Sony NEX...but Canon will produce soon a DSLR with 4K video.

I'm really fed up of waiting.

I don't know what else to say I feel bad for some but, while I wanted 2/3 you can't deny what RED released is amazing for it's price. It killed any need of having a DSLR for me, even photo purposes, fills all my movie making abilities and is under 10K for a body. It can be frustrating but RED doesn't owe anyone anything. And they give us there best. But you can't make everyone happy.

As a pro photographer turned cinematographer, I thank RED for giving us 5K stills; this was, for me, a MUST as I can now ditch my DSLRs, keep my good lenses and have one body that does both well. Sure, it will not do certain things, but heck, this body will soon be able to be upgraded to the Dragon sensor, and who knows what other firmware freebies Red has in stock for us. Yes, it is more expensive, but I think RED wanted to remain PRO, and by doing so realize it would leave some people behind.

RED gave a lot of people a lot of bullshit for years. They should be angry/frustrated/whatever. What Red just did was "pull an Apple". You promise something really great. You then pound into everyones head you have the best best bestest product EVER. Then you announce there is a BIG announcement coming - only to cover the fact that the product is not as good as you once promised. Hopefully, many people will not notice, or still take it.
The best part of this business strategy is that it otentially leaves you with a lot of new customers buying something just a little too expensive and under specced so that they really want to upgrade asap. Herein lies the real money maker.

So there you have it - if you didn´t already know.

Not saying you shouldn´t buy a Scarlet though. I think it fits excellent for certain work.

I really don't mind that the Scarlet is S35 now... I just wished they have kept the frame rates a bit higher so maybe we could have a usable 24 fps at least in 5K mode and 120 fps at 3K (like the 2/3 Scarlet was originally planned to get)

But I can feel the pain for those who have been waiting for the fixed lens Scarlet for about 6K...

There was no way Jim was going to make everyone happy. Since everyone wanted different things.

That's just the way it is.

The Scarlet will put a dent in the Epic X market, but the good news is that to make Scarlet a "rentable" package, it's going to take some money.. There's more it than just the body...

Don't hold your breath on the canon 4k dslr. probably late 2012

Heh...all the folks who keep saying, "Scarlet is AMAZING! They gave us MORE than we were expecting!" kind of crack me up. It's like waiting for a new compact roadster to be released and then the company releases a truck instead. You're like, "WOW! This has MUCH more storage room than the roadster we'd been hearing about!!!"

2/3" cameras are single-operator cameras. That's why ENG shooters use them. You can eyeball focus and things usually work out. 35mm cameras are cameras you use when you're shooting with a crew and have time to have your assistant help you set up focus marks and run your actors through the blocking so you can maintain critical focus. These are two completely different applications. The Scarlet was going to be Red's contribution to doc shooters. A large sensor just won't work for that. I mean, I get that it's easier and cheaper for Red to have one line of sensors and one range of cameras, but losing the 2/3" sensor isn't "amazing!"...it's a deal-breaker for those of us who aren't looking to shoot narrative fiction.

Really? People are upset about the Scarlet specs? Wow, you really can't please everybody. Personally I was pleasantly surprised. I think back to the Sony D35 BetaSP I bought for $45k and sold 2 years later for $10k. If the new Scarlet is too much camera for you and you want a S16/fixed lens camera for $5k, get an Ex1 (or a HVX200).

++++1 Robert. It's not that I don't like the new Scarlet. It's that I was on board with a COMPLETELY different camera. I consider myself a professional. Just because I can't afford a $25k camera doesn't prove otherwise. Apples and Oranges. That's old scarlet vs. new scarlet in a nutshell. I'm VERY happy for everyone who can order one but allow the rest of us who have been violently shoved out of line to be a little sad.

The Scarlet X is a great camera.

RED gave a lot of people a lot of bullshit for years?

Not as long as Sony, Panasonic and Arri did.
