You don't "change the world" the way Steve Jobs did by influencing 2 or 3 people. He was the master of understanding what people wanted even before they did, and had the charisma, personal power and perseverance to create it for them. He didn't use focus groups or marketing surveys, he had vision and insight to go along with his business acumen. You are dead wrong if you think Apple was successful because they were just like any other big company. They were more successful than pretty much any other company in history by operating exactly under this philosophy. Steve Jobs never stepped into line to be like everyone else; instead, he was persuasive enough to get millions and millions of people to see the world the way he did. Steve Jobs "walked this talk" more than most of us coiuld ever hope to.
Even those who point to Android adoption being higher .... hmmm ... is that because it's open, or because they give free phones away (or for $99, etc) on almost every carrier? And what about app quality? Developer income? Consistent user experience across phones/carriers? Profitability? None match iOS.
Me thinks something was lost in translation on that thought. Doubt if the demographic any product that is sold by the 100 million could be generalized. That being said - a fair amount of Apple users view themselves as non-conformist since they represent 5% of the PC market
This wasn't a Steve Jobs quote, this was an ad for Apple.

Amazing none the less.
the guy was totally smoke and mirrors
Seriously? Possibly the dumbest words ever uttered on this forum, with the worst possible timing.
Given that even Jim -- a brilliant revolutionary in his own right -- stated that he didn't feel he should be mentioned in the same sentence as Steve, your statement is so ridiculous here on Reduser, it's ban-worthy.

No question, Jobs could be very difficult, arrogant, and aggressive, but I'm not sure if Apple could have been successful any other way. Jobs used to say, "I'm judged, not so much by the products I release, but for the hundreds of other ideas we don't release." The two brilliant things about Jobs were that first, the guy had great taste, and secondly, he surrounded himself by great designers and programmers. He was absolutely obsessed with the smallest detail of the products and software they made, and it shows in the ease of use and effectiveness of much of what Apple has done over the last ten years.Steve Jobs hmm... I heard he was a Jekyll and Hyde kinda guy.
