RED is the embodiment of "anything is possible" and I will be buying as many Scarlets as the Nov 3 announcement allows. I'm 25 and at the early onset of what I hope to be a long career, and I see no day where I choose anything but RED. It's more than a company.
I feel the same way. I'm the same age, same stage, and after being in LA/Hollywood for a year now, I SEVERELY dislike the system currently in place. There are so many people in this town with high ranking positions that have absolutely no idea what they are doing and only got there through networking and ass-kissing. It seems like talent and innovation are almost shunned as more and more "vanity" job titles are handed out to people who should be depositing my checks at the bank... not green-lighting scripts or working in production.
This has only gone on so long because there are NO OTHER OPTIONS. Hollywood quality films can simply could not be produced out-side the system... until now. It was not even a monopoly... it was simply just OWNED... Like if Ford was the ONLY manufacturer of automobiles. I'm hoping that Red is the beginning to a completely new alternative entertainment industry that rivals what is currently in place. I mean, when was the film-making process really ever changed... never? The unions have done a pretty good job of killing competition and making sure that the status-quoe was maintained all these years. I just hope they don't declare Red shoots "non-union" and ban them from productions... or something malicious like that. That's what happens... some kind of new competition shows up and then BAM! It's non-union and can't be done that way. End of story. Go back to the old-way where it costs 50x more and takes 10x longer...
Hopefully in the future we might even see completely independent theater chains... projecting Redcode, and completely by-passing the currently distribution system with the profits going back 100% to the theaters and film-makers. I know people Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, ect. have shown distain for the current distribution model... Maybe the "Red-movement" and internet marketing are the answer the current totalitarian studio system?
I can see it now:
November 3rd. 6pm:
Canon - "Here is our new DSLR/Regular camera. It's basically a 5D that can record raw video in 1080p. It also shoots slo-motion at an incredible 60fps (but only at 720p)!!!! It has built in HDR that looks like crap. Oh and it's shaped like camcorder and not a dslr now. It's only $8,000." But wait there's more. For you loyal Canon customers it's still $8,000. But you can still use all your canon lenses."
This has already happened... it's called the F3. But oh yea, no RAW and $15,000.:biggrin5:
