  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fun...

Jim,

I think I'm going to buy you a kilt. Seriously. You're qualified.

I was aware of RED right from the beginning; I'm a geek. I knew you guys were going to change the world. If I had been where I am now, professionally, in 2007 - if I'd had any use for a movie camera - I would have put a deposit down without a moments hesitation and been part of the RED family from the start.

Consider the wish to be the deed.

Keep rocking.

Mike

Really.. someone should interview the fly that sits on our walls inside RED and ask him what a day looks like.

I bet there are some very talented filmmakers here who would love to do that or to even be the fly. Think about it :) I'd love to see some BTS-stuff. Doesn't have to be the "Roadmap and release date meeting" in the "development magic workshop". But just an insight into your daily work. One day the media will get curious and then you'll be prepared :)

If you want a mind-boggling experience (a true DSMC epiphany) check out www.red.com and go to the Shot on RED section... Photography.

The transformation of the fashion world is hard to have imagined.

Jim

Man, if there is any kind of solid announcement that has the numbers 6…4….5, my life will practically flash before my eyes. A MF (medium format not Mofo) camera that can shoot dynamic bursts and can be amped up for longer sequences and then be upgradable????

What Christopher said:...

Red…..[meaaaiin], just pure REhhhhd…

Must…get…..off………..red ……for..um……(left hand struggling against with right hand on the mouse)…(Loud hailer) ”Step away from the computer…”, “put THE MOUSE DOWN!”.

This is crazy;

This is like Doctor who in the 1970’s you have to watch it peeking from behind the sofa, otherwise you are going to get totally freaked out..but you can’t take your eyes off it…

Too Much…

...[Jim, earlier in this thread] ..."sounds like something big is coming"...[now]...we have "Mate" in sight. And the winner is our customer. (which is all of us)

Jim

Been lurking here a month or so...now, having familiarized myself with some of the dynamics of this board, I just HAD to post a reply to these teasers, from M. Jannard:

What would "Checkmate" be? ...(and I'm certain that Jim has the philosophical sensibility that progress and achievement are only points in a continuum, not a definitive end)...

To me, checkmate might be >40MP capture, a la the Kodak CCD sensors [frame rates not withstanding] that are used in Leica S2, or the Hasselblad chip (RED's nod to Hasselblad's modularity makes that logical). This would be DOUBLE 70MM motion film capture, in a handheld device....EEEESCH! And then Moore's law moves the sticks further away, but there is a point of diminishing returns.

But, like Apple, RED's dominance in the space will be established with a complete workflow. Not just in prod & post-prod, but on end-consumer playback.

There doesn't HAVE to be RED branded projection. But, I think Jim's retail success with Oakley makes him comfortable with the logistical demands that are required in the supply/service chain. Also, Apple has something up their sleeve on motion picture display, that will drop within a year.

But, damn it all, I just want the Scarlet.

My half pennies, anyway. [Jim, I'm available for consulting].

My top 5 favorite things about RED.

5. The attitude
4. The cameras
3. Redcode RAW
2. The entire team
1. They made this business FUN again.

I can not tell you how many quality human beings I have met as a result of this idea and through REDuser.
It's actually a community full of really great people. Like minded people.

No doubt that RED also proved that the business was a bit overdue for an overhaul.

The RED team really doesn't get enough credit. If you think about how few of us there are in comparison to the "other companies" it should be considered a miracle what we have accomplished so far. If you knew what was coming you would find other words...

Jim

I will never take you guys for granted...!

I have just experienced how it could be to be a part of the RED Team.
First I was a TA at REDucation in London with Brian, Ted, six other TAs and 41 students
and then I had the pleasure to work at the RED booth at IBC in Amsterdam.

Special thanks to Brian and Ted for this fun ride! It was a great pleasure working with you!
Have a save trip back home!

This is capitalism at its best right? An opportunity/need is seen in the marketplace - a great idea is brought to reality that bucks conventional thinking and marketplace complacency. Products get better - prices come down - consumer wins!

Thanks Red team for giving our industry an nice kick in the ### and a taste of American thinking at its best. Keep rocking!

Just attended Reducation in London and I must send a big "Thank You" to all of you guys. And to the entire Red team for creating a camera that is so advanced yet simple to shoot. It is sooo easy to expose and make choices on Epic. And then to view it in 4K is actually emotional: it is like coming home to 35mm still photography. Just better, easier and in motion. Keep up the forward thinking, keep thinking system and please include advanced audio and system integration in your future plans. Thanks again!

It's easily summed up like this:

The other camera companies are motivated by profit. Red is motivated by passion.

I have a feeling that when Jim and the Red team are up late working on a new idea, the thought "this could make money" never even crosses their mind." Only, "this would be really cool."

Its an amazing achievement, I talk to people who dont even work in production or the film industry full stop and when I mention RED they reply "isn't that the new camera everyone is talking about"!
Congrats and thank you!

I am having so much fun... the kind of fun where you worry about the Police showing up. Really... it is hard to describe.

This is the single most interesting and challenging thing I could have ever imagined being involved in. Every time I pick up my EPIC, I can hardly believe it. My eyes get the size of golfballs and the feeling is "new" every time I touch it.

The experience here at Reduser is the icing on the cake. This forum is a phenomenon in and of itself. I can't tell you how inspiring it is to have so many support and contribute to what we are doing on a daily basis. This has become my 2nd home.

The people I work with at RED make me so proud. I have seen people rise up and perform beyond all expectations... seemingly 24 hours a day and for years now without rest. Hard to believe. I am in awe.

I really feel like the luckiest guy in the world. I'm not that smart for this to happen without the moon and stars lining up and without a ton of impossible work being done by a truly great group of people...

Thanks to all of you that camp here and push us... and make this so f#¢$ing much fun.

Jim

Jim,
Glad to be part of this incredible adventure ;)
I love REDUSER and the professionalism of this forum.

thanks
Luigi

Jim - You're generally very deliberate with your wording. Can I look to your capitalization of the word "police" as a sign, too? ;)

Sting is getting in the RED game? Not sure that's worth it's own thread, but okay...
