  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The RED ONE M-X...

I am at Pinewood Hotel right now and going to set up
REDucation with Brian and the others today.
I feel very happy and excided to be a part this.
And I am very happy to be a member of the RED family!

Thank you RED

Two RED One MX'S are shooting the feature Dark Harvest as we speak. Maybe I should get back to shooting?

I LOVE mine. Love it.

Epic is wicked cool to me primarily because it can go in my overhead compartment, with batteries and lens for lighter jobs in faraway places. When I travel with my MX it means a couple of big pelican cases.

I'm about to start on my first feature with the R1MX in three weeks. Can't wait!

We have two days of underwater shooting up first. It should really be fun!

The RED one was released 4 years ago. You could upgrade (and still can) a RED ONE to RED ONE M-X.

The RED ONE M-X was used to shoot "The Social Network", which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography in 2010. It was used on Pirates 4 which has grossed over $1B worldwide. It was used on "Contagion". It is being used on "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

The RED ONE M-X is current. It is historic. It is a camera that continues to have value. You can shoot "greatness" today on a RED ONE M-X.

Jim

Jim's post sounds like a sort of epitaph for RED ONE MX tombstone or plaque.

And of course I remember as a R1 early reservation holder that my RED ONE MX was really amazing camera I was able to swap in a second almost any existing lens on the planet.

According to the first sentence of my post I can feel it in the air that RED1 MX production days are numbered.

But sounds good just because it means that RED is moving forward with production of new cameras...

And probably coming up soon more affordable camera models that are actually the most desirable ones from many REDusers or even non Red users all over the world.

We've got two Red One MX's at the International Film School Sydney. First Australian film school to invest in Red. An Epic-X soonish. Plus more next year.

One of our ex-students (cinematography) was told that he must be a liar "there's no way you could have shot that many Red One projects".

Him and many other happy students have taken a leap into the highest levels of artistry with the Red One M and MX.

The only camera we've ever bought not to break down. Art AND brute strength. Great! Bring it on...

What are you expecting? 5k RED camera for free on a Lollipop? What RED does for us customers is allready incredible.

I have 2 Red MX cameras and I have 2 Epics coming with stage 2. and am very grateful for the generous deal that was offered to us and in fact persuaded a lot of people I know to go the same route because it was such a great deal. Furthermore , it is wonderful news to be soon receiving my Epics, But I have been making great images with my Red MX's and this will not change just because I have a new camera. The Red MX took great images today and will continue to take great images in the future. It is surely not worth anyones while to sell their MX's with the stage 2 deal (especially as this breaks contract) you got to keep your camera basically for $9000 (when calculating stage 3) also quicker delivery. Why would you want to sell, it makes no sense whatsoever. All I can say is people never cease to amaze me. Really guys if you cannot make your cameras pay for themselves with just your own work (never mind about renting to third parties) maybe you are not in the right industry.

Jim,

From the technical point of view, there is any way to make a major upgrade of the hardware in our Red Ones in order to go beyond 4,5K-5K and maybe a bit more frame rates capabilities, etc., etc.?

We love the RED ONE and will continue to support it like a Queen.

Jim

R1 M is also a beautifull camera...

Love mine

Even with access to an Epic.

(And I work a fair amount of R1 MX stuff... Like 1 hour or 2 of raw recordings a day for the last year...)

The R1 M is such a ballanced camera. All in ballance with itself.

Just have to say.

And in post the M is sooo gentle.

They're different. Like filmstocks. With strengths and weaknesses.

Cheers

G

Jim,

First off, I want to thank you for everything you and the rest of the Red Team have done from day one. You have not only changed history, but have changed the lives of many people -- I am one of them! Since I bought my R1, my life has changed for the better.

I am proud to be the owner of a Red One. Just because you have now raised the bar with the Epic in no way discounts the R1's value. A Red One is STILL a Red One and still beats any other camera in the market.

When I brought my Red One to Egypt, many people I encountered did not want to work with it, they didn't understand the workflow and preferred shooting with lesser-capable cameras. In the last 2 years, I have changed that. My R1 stays constantly busy now.

The people at Red are family. To demonstrate this point, you don't see Panasonic, Sony or Arri creating a kids camp to teach hands-on with the best cameras in the world. You don't see them rewarding the people who believed in them with freebies, discounts on upgrades and personal attention. You, Jim, are a pathfinder and a rare gem. You have shown us your loyalty time and time again and are appreciated, as are the rest of the Red Team.

While I am anxiously awaiting my Stage-2 X, my non-MX'd Red One is my baby and I'm never getting rid of it.

Thank you for everything.

The R1 is also a perfect companion to the Epic

Good point, Greg. I will be upgrading my Red One to MX and expect the Epic-X soon:

I think I'll never get rid of my Scarlet too...unless you need to return it for a sensor/hardware upgrade.

Hey Jim, I just had my first shoot with a RED ONE MX and I loved it. I hope it will live a wonderful productive live in the years to come. I see no reason what so ever for this camera to become obsolete ever.
So guys, before it sits on your shelves, lend it to some newbees to learn how to use it.

We are just shooting ...

Red One and Epic-M side by side ...

There´s nothing that matches better than Red Raw ...

What are you expecting? 5k RED camera for free on a Lollipop?

Could be that you also owe a couple of overpriced Louis Vuitton or Hermès lady bags!!!:laugh::laugh:

Just kidding.

To get more what I think read my posts!

We love the RED ONE and will continue to support it like a Queen.

The MX update was big, huge, great update. I adore my humble Queen RED ONE MX. She fits in a Think tank airport accelerated bag pack (the "Mini Cooper" of the bag packs) with all the accessories. She shoots pictures with a quality I can only call "royal". It´s great to hear she will always be supported. The newest support : RedcineX Pro, simply fantastic software who makes the Queen smile! Thanks, Jim!
My little dream about her is: One day she will be able to shoot 60fps 4K.
