Oh, I see. So the XL are basically the same size at two Redvolts side by side?

Thanks for the update Jim. Red continues to illustrate, to other companies that care (dare?) to listen, how to deal with customers. Awesome!

Not too far off the thread I hope. What's the current status of audio with the Epic-M? Delivery out of stock is making it look very good.

Audio works fine on the latest build of Epic M.

Just need playback and 720P now

Thanks Adam. Gee, it's looking good. How happy are you with yours? (stupid question I guess)

Holy sh*t - I can almost taste my Epic-X and feel it's weight in my hands already. Wonderful!

I am also very curious about the battery modules. Can anyone explain to me exactly what these modules are? Do they work with Redvolts? Are there larger Redvolts coming? Any renders or pics? Also, any estimated dates on either battery module?

Jep good question Tom
Stuff that we should know soon. My old RED batteries started dying on me. So I need new ones. But how many because of the redvolts.
Will there be enough in September or do we have to work with "old" V mounts etc etc?

Would be nice to know a bit more in this regard. In 2 month my Epic will hopefully be in my hands and we have to plan all the accessories.

Thanks guys
Tim

All I know is that this modules could not come to market fast in off, using V lock batteries i no longer an option for us, we Love the Redvolts too much,
but currently they just don't offer the best option for some situations, so having a module to Hotswap them will be great, and also we look forward to the
XL Redvolts as those situations were longer battery power is needed and less swaps made the better.

Hey Ketch

do you know how long the bigger RED volts will last?
If they last around an hour that would be killer.
Then RED should make an battery holder for just one XL Volt so the Epic Kit can stay as small as possible.
I really want to keep my Epic as small and light.

Thanks man

Tim

Ha Ha. Just reading up on sales techniques at the moment.

You know Jim, you're supposed to use the threat of rising prices as an incentive to buy but to do that they need to be going up really, really soon. I just don't think, "you'd better buy today because the price is set to rise... in five months!" has the right ring to it;-))) Still, I guess just making the best damn camera on the planet just might be incentive enough.

Thanks Adam. Gee, it's looking good. How happy are you with yours? (stupid question I guess)

My back loves the EPIC, I am a steadicam guy so having a 1/4 of the weight is awesome and so is the high speed frame rate.

The pictures are great, camera is very stable I am a happy man!

Regarding batteries.. I can't comment yet as mine haven't turned up and I mainly power the camera from my steadicam sled.

But I bought the Viewfactor FMJ top mount, and a 19mm top rod holder with handle (Among other bits from the red store) and I have mounted my old RED ONE battery pack/hard drive cradle onto the EPIC via the 19mm carbon fibre rods and I use IDX v-lock batteries.

This setup works for me great ad I am very happy with this power setup. Ideally i would like a Vlock plate/cradle that could mount to the viewfactor full metal jacket top mount.

EPIC-M

EPIC-M

PHP:
There is no waiting if you want to buy an EPIC-M starting tomorrow.

Hi Jim,

The selection criteria for EPIC-M still hold good or 'anyone' can buy an EPIC-M.

Thanks

Harcharan

Good to hear. Congratulations on finally making production. Red deserves a decent break for change. You guys have worked so hard for this.

that is a fantastic deal for existing RED owners... the difference in price is enormous! why wouldn't almost every RED owner choose either stage 2 or 3..? :-)

Oh, I see. So the XL are basically the same size at two Redvolts side by side?
Essentially, yes. Someone who is able to get the search function on this website working better than me can probably dig something up... I know there have been multiple images of the XL batteries posted along the way.

That being said, I just noticed this:

PRO BATTERY MODULE (QUAD) ......................... $1950
Pro Battery Module (Dual) .............. $1,250 ..... $1,450

...so apparently there are two different "pro battery modules" in the works. I would assume it's just single and double width, but you know what happens when you assume. To that note:

Then RED should make an battery holder for just one XL Volt so the Epic Kit can stay as small as possible.
That doesn't really seem possible as the XL's are the width of two regular REDVOLTS, so unless the module was the last in the chain and the batteries went on the back, it wouldn't fit. But I suppose everything is subject to change. :)

So.... if my math is right....

I can order the M now, just got my approval email :) at 58k

or wait for stage 4 at appx. 46k or if I miss that, pay appx 53k next year (for the same kit as an M package)

Yeah, that's a real tough decision and fortunately I just sent out a mound of invoices. Now if I can just manage not to totally freak out while waiting to get funds in place... patience young padawan.

It's astounding the quality of craft that Red is making available to mere humans like myself ;)
