Does anyone know how to turn the Epic on/off remotely?

I can not use a solenoid on the front because:
a. the lens is in the way.
b. front port is in the way

I can not use a solenoid on the side because:
a. there is no space in 3D side-by-side configuration
b. there is not enough room in the underwater housing

We're evaluating some possible alternate solutions.

six...

Especially for tracking vehicle / crane work... the REDMOTE connectivity was about 15feet to short. :( ... we had to stop the tracking vehicle, jump off, race to the camera, press record, jump back on, drive off, get up to speed, frame up... by then we had shot about 30gig already.

But hey! DATA is free right! . I had to do that with Film a few years ago, because the remote RCU on / off wasn't working.... That was a costly shoot. ha!

But for now a hard wired cable with a on/off switch would be cool, like the Viewfactor model for the RED ONES. That would get me out of trouble instantly.

Anyone making one of those cables yet?

Anyway, I'm sure the REDMOTE will get better range soon and we will all be sweeeeeeeeeeeet! Because I love the idea of the REDMOTE. just love it. It lives on the back of my EPIC and gives me a wealth of info at a touch of a button. LOVE IT!

Not when you shoot underwater...you can't just change the SSD ....unless you are very quick :)
And, this is also why there should be "delete last No Good" take button...:)

That would be nice... an dangerous at the same time... maybe to delete it's a 3 part sequence of buttons, so you double check yourself before you delete the wrong shot.

I don't think thats in REDs plans though, I think i read a thread ages ago about this.

But a simple remote ON/OFF is more a the necessity.

Last thing you want is a 3-button sequence when the action is happening underwater. There should be a 1 button action assigned to a user button...no questions asked. If you don't like it, you don't assign that action to any button...simple and safe for those that have NFI what buttons they press. When you shoot wildlife you need speed and ability to delete NG take in a split second is vital when there is no possibility to change the magazine. There are different workflows and styles of using cameras. :)

What is actually dangerous is to not be able to delete clips because you will lose the shots if you run out of space.

Yes, agree. Even if the camera powers on automatically when power is connected, would be fine.
