Thanks to all the friends I met at NAB that showed interest in our new LiVE PLAY automated video playback system at NAB.
The application has been submitted to the iTunes App Store and should be available for download very soon.
In the meantime, we've loaded some video tutorials on our website that give a detailed outline of the setup, operation, and exporting tools available with the LiVE PLAY system.
We look forward to receiving feedback on the application and will continue development in effort to make it more powerful for end users.
These tutorials will help answer questions about the system and clearly demonstrate how LiVE PLAY can be used so you can determine if it's the right tool for you.

Cant say enough good things about this at NAB. Ill shoot you an email after our new Ipads arrive Michael.

Looks great - I watched the videos on your site, and it looks brilliant - could you explain the live option a bit ... I dont think that was covered as much as accessing standard H.264 files that were coming off the server - so a teradek style operation, please?

Mike

It may not be for live camera viewing. It does state right off - "LiVE PLAY allows for immediate review of H.264 content served via the free server application".

Am I getting that right Michael?

Pete

LiVEPLAY isn't designed for live viewing - largely because the iPad isn't really designed for live viewing either. There are "backdoor" tricks to allow the iPad to view images live, but they don't help a production looking to make notations on actual takes. Live viewing wouldn't contain any clip metadata or reel information, and therefore couldn't be easily used for use in post, vfx, or DI.
With a LiVE PLAY setup on set, Video Village is still alive and well:-)

It seems similar to the Air Video Server (also free) and Air Video app. Except LivePlay appears to considerably more focused on production needs. Also the Air Video Server runs on Windows. And it works great!

I think Teradek uses that combo of apps for there immediate 'dailies' - 'immediatlies?'

Michael,
Great to meet you at NAB man. Hopefully I'll be back out to LA to visit soon.
Can't wait to use Live Play onset.

But do know that you can play live to an iPad with a VERY short delay via a Teradeck CUBE. We are doing it and it works awesome. It can play out to a few iPads or iPhones. The setup is a little cumbersome, so I was also hoping this app was going to make that easier. But once you set it up, it works great. We're using it now regularly on shoots to an iPad for live viewing.

Great app, Michael. Just watched the videos...very powerful stuff. Bigger than what we need, but awesome for larger scaled projects and films.

Thanks!

Kevin

LiVE PLAY is $19.99. That gives you the application, and LP Server is free. This gives you the serving, tracking, playback, and security controls. If you want LP Collaboration, that is a pay-as-you-go service, which is an in-app purchase. This way, you only pay for LP Collaboration tools when you need them. Since many productions will start with playback only, there is no need to active Collaboration unless you need it. There are price-breaks for Collaboration based on the amount of days you wish to use it starting at $19.99 per day. You can mix non-collaboration with iPads that are just the playback. This makes it simple for users, and cheaper for people that do not need the expansion tools.

LivePlay Server is available on Light Iron's website, but I am still unable to find the iPad app in the app store. Am I searching for the wrong thing?, or are we still waiting for Apple to approve the app?

Michael, it's been a long time since NAB. Is Liveplay app in Apple store yet? Lim

LiVE PLAY RELEASED

LiVE PLAY RELEASED

First of all, thanks to all our beta testers for their work in the field which contributed to the development of LiVE PLAY so that it is finally available for world-wide download on the Apple iTunes store. Second of all, thanks to everyone else for patiently awaiting LiVE PLAY's official release. LiVE PLAY is a powerful, robust and collaborate tool with many levels of interaction between iOS and OSX. Getting LiVE PLAY to this point will benefit users and I hope the wait has been worth it.

There have been some changes to the program and its pricing structure. We've been able to bundle all the features of LiVE PLAY so that owners now have full access to unlimited users, secure playback, full collaboration and exporting for the stand-alone price of $34.99. You can download the application at the below link.

Light Iron has been working on future iterations of LiVE PLAY and new features will be available on a regular basis. Features such as ALE and XML import of meta data and live streaming will be available in the near future. Please stay tuned to the iTunes store and www.lightiron.com for future releases.

Finally, as LiVE PLAY continues to be utilized on set and in post, please send your feature requests to liveplay@lightiron.com for tech support and feature requests. We rely heavily on our users to give us ideas for future improvements.
