  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new CS 5.5 and RedRocket?

As posted in other threads. We use rocket fully when available. We can get full res realtime 4k playback on windows, we drop 1 or 2 frames on the mac due to apple architecture limitations we are currently trying to work around. As for I/O we know it works very well with the NVidea SDI out solution. We are working towards making it work much better with our other partners. After we debayer with Rocket if you have a Cuda card everything will be accelerated as normal.

Cheers

Dave
Once the issues with Mac are worked out and you can get smooth playback out of a Kona card without dropping your edit into a Kona specific sequence, this will be icing on the cake for RED workflows on a Mac.

Why not switch between Mac and PC? A current Mac Pro is a quite beefy PC too! You can edit in Premier Pro under Windows and color grade on the Mac OS side with DaVinci resolve.

Here we go, I installed the 5.5, the Epic importer, RR 1.4.10 with GTX285 with 4.0.17 cuda driver and the Multibridge Pro 8.0.1 on my Mac Pro 4,1. The RR is installed in my Magma Express2 at x8 speed along with the 10gb card from smalltree. Guess what? Placing 50 minutes worth of 4K and some slomo 2K (2:1) to the Multribridge Pro HD timeline (fit the the frame size) then hit the play from any location of the timeline would instantly playback on the desktop and from the HDSDI out of the Multibridge Pro. I have the dropped frame report thing unchecked (that means Premiere Pro would report upon dropped frame) but never shows the dropped frame alert. The thumbnails on the timeline show up instantly. With the capability of exporting FCP XML that could be utilized with Resolve 8, so I am sold.

Hi Kaku,

Did you try Premiere 5.5 and the new macbook Pro 4 core ? I was waiting for FCP X, but my plan has changed, and I am looking for another editing solution for my Macbook Pro. That should be OK for Resolve 8 but I have no idea of the graphic card performance with Premiere 5.5 and R3D

Oliver, I only have the MacBook Pro i7 without the thunderbolt, but I have the RED ROCKET connected, so I will see how that works tomorrow. It's 4am in Japan.

Don't forget to sleep a bit Kaku ;-)

I have the Thunderbolt version. I shall do test also.

I wasn't able to install the Cuda driver for the MacBook Pro yet and the playback was sketchy. I'll work on it later. Thanks for your concern Olivier.

THe macbook pros use ati or built in graphics. We don't have cud a support for mac laptops yet.

I hear certain models could work with cuda. Gotta check if mine falls to that group.

So, we'd have to modfy the text to type in the terminal commands for CS5.5 (information sources decribe for CS5), but simply replacing the word CS5 to CS5.5 worked fine.

Now I have my MacBook Pro and PPCS5.5 working with cuda, so I will start testing with RED ROCKET and let you guys know how it works.

I will get more info from our Cuda guy. If it works for you guys great but we had problems with bus speed (I think) not being fast enough on that model to enable CUDA.

I went through with some testing and yes you are right. The bus speed issue. I didn't do much actual Cuda testing, but after everything enabled, playing back 4.5K R3D footage with RED Rocket on and off won't make much difference with MacBook Pro. I'm still stoked about my Mac Pro/RED ROCKET/GTX280/PPCS5.5 configuration. The way Adobe continued to support RED ROCKET is really promising. Avid seems to be giving up on that.

Cs 5.5 Epic 2k 300 Fps y Red Rocket 1.4.10

Cs 5.5 Epic 2k 300 Fps y Red Rocket 1.4.10

Hello

I pray that you forgive me for not knowing how to write in English.
I hope you understand me.
I have a Red Rocket 1.4.10 updated RED EPIC and work with files with 300 fps in 2K and RED EPIC CS importer with 5.5 Preview for version 1.4.7.
Red Rocket do not work in CS5.5

I need to install any files?
I need a new driver for 1.4.10V?

Thank you all for your help

Javier,

I haven't worked with Epic files, but the combination of ECPI CS Importer and the RED ROCKET 1.4.10 works. Once you place the R3D clip in the project, select one then go to the source Settings... under the Clip menu then select the "Use Rocket" pull down as "One" or "All Available". I'm curious to see how it would work for Epic, too.

Thank You Kaku.

I appreciate your help.
I've done what you've shown me but I think it still does not work.
I say this because in the timeline remains the red line even with R1 files.

Is your Rocket working with REDCINE-X 457?
