  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW Final Cut to be Announced at NAB?

I'm not a software engineer, but eliminating those workflow steps would be gold. It's not just the round trip steps either. It's what you have to do to prep an FCP sequence for Color, because Color doesn't like certain effects, is finicky about speed changes and some transitions. I end up rebuilding the sequence after I've roundtripped it to Color. Would be brilliant to simply work on the existing timeline within a modal interface (call it a room or tab), within FCP. Fingers crossed.

+1. The roundtrip deal is totally against the grain of the concept of non-linear workflow.

My first reaction is 'Wow, good idea. Thanks!'

My second reaction is what the hell is the world coming to when I'm considering buying my editing program at Best Buy with i tunes gift cards?

You know I thought that too, but shit if it saves me $45 I could care less how I get it.

There's a reason Color, DaVinci, etc all present on a bland grey background, and it's not because they're too lazy to do UI design.

Wait a minute ... I thought the neutral grey UI in most pro applications was kind of awesome!

Would be excellent if the Thunderbolt peripherals that roll out with FCPX next week (if that's when it is) include a Thunderbolt Red Rocket setup (unlikely) or perhaps new AJA or Blackmagic Thunderbolt devices, which is maybe more likely.

Be great to have it next week. But, wheres the rest of the apps we used (and I for one like and depend on), Compressor, Color, Soundtrack, DVD Studio pro............why the silence....

Im not going to let someone else dictate what a pro app should be.
I would try it myself and I have confidence in what I saw at the SuperMeet that FCPX will benefit me :)

Marko, Did you actually watch the Larry Jordan videos? He has very good things to say about FCPX. He is only saying it will not be a professional editing tool when it ships precisely because it is newly shipping software. HE IS NOT saying it will never be professional editing software. HE IS NOT saying that the core design of FCPX is flawed. He is only saying that we don't know everything we need to know, and that if you were planning to buy it on day one and replace FCP 7, that's not a good idea.

After watching the videos, I think there is much promise, with some areas of concern. I think saying "not so good news" is getting way too far of the curve at this point. Larry Jordan is saying we have to wait and see. That's the whole point of his speech.

It's funny sometimes, how people get worked up so fast.
But I guess some people are like that, and that's OK.
All info around is mostly very positive, from my POV.
Especially since those recent MotionX screen captures.

My best App Store bet would be:
FCPX $300
Motion X $200
Color X $200
Compressor X $50
Logic X $300 [no Soundtrack Pro]
DVDSP is out.

I have no inside information. This is just what I think it's looking like today...
We will all find out real soon.

No I didn't, still haven't got home and take a break to watch it, but I sure will. I pretty much got caught by the FCP.co understanding as it would be something bad... I hope for the best, as we all are of course :)

the headline is disingenuous. larry jordan is very conservative on his views of all pro software and rightfully so. i've never heard him say that version 1.0 of anything is ready for pro use. what i did hear in the video was 45 minutes of praising this unreleased app's amazing features and a few minutes of speculation that resulted in statements like "why would anyone abandon fcp7 just because the new fcpx is released?".

the only thing that matters to me (which has never been directly addressed) is will fcpx edit r3d natively?
