The DSMC 15mm support (centered) attaches to the DSMC QR Baseplate, a DSMC universal mount, or an ET Hybrid Baseplate ( I think).

If instead, I could:
A) attach a 15mm lightweight support to the front of the mounting plate (EPIC), or
B) If a deluxe Mounting Plate (EPIC) was made that included a 15mm lightweight support, as one piece,

I'd be able to go handheld, shooting from the hip, or on the Easyrig, without a Baseplate attached to the camera, or Studio Rod Adapters on the follow focus, or Mattebox.
I'd save maybe 2 lb / 1 kg.

It looks like ET is making a lightweight 15mm bracket that bolts to their EPIC riser. Brook Willard, and Action Products are doing the same.

The lightest, quickest solution of all would be the solution I'm describing, though - Quick Release from the Baseplate, just a really lightweight QR mounting plate left under the camera, and 15mm lightweight rods.

Here are the two part I'm talking about combining:

How about it?

Thanks,

I will probably make one for the Epic like the one I made for RED One (longvalleyequip) - just need someone to stop by my shop with an Epic so I can take some measurements and study it, then of course get approval from RED, like last time.

So this, right?

Already modeled and prototyped. Awaiting machine time to enter production.

Brook I forgot you were making this one. Great.
Jason I've got an ET riser in front of me now - and there are three threads of about the distance apart as Brook's two. One is in the center, though. So I don't think Brook's 15mm adapter will work with it. I think ET will be making their own.

When's yours available, Brook?

The pictured one works with REDs DSMC plate. The FMJ-Bottom which is currently shipping works with ET's Hybrid or original baseplate. All spacing line up as you'd expect... Unless I'm misunderstanding something.

I understand that your FMJ-Bottom works with ET's Hybrid. The holes to attach your LW15 is different to holes on the front of the ET "EPIC Shim" plate.

ET's shim plate slides around between camera and baseplate.
I like the lip on the front of your Riser, to keep it snapped to the camera. I think I'll be picking one up, and ditching ET's, frankly.

... Brook why not put another lip on the lower right side of the riser as well, to keep the riser snug to the Hybrid (maybe another lip at the front, going down over the front of the Hybrid as well)?
You'd need a version for 15mm hybrid , and another for 19mm, if you had that side lip.
I'd pay a premium for something that really does away with the constant reaching for coins or screwdrivers.

Unfortunately adding that lip will prevent it from being compatible with the Hybrid plate in all modes (offset and centered) or with both the Hybrid plate and the original RED Arri plate. I am planning on eventually making a small 15mm studio baseplate more appropriately sized for the Epic... But that's a ways away.

Thanks, Brook. I've just noticed that I can put a couple of extra bolts up into the ET riser through the ET baseplate, making four in total. so that should keep things tight

Hey Mark. I see that you are looking for a product that is lightweight, and can be used with a deluxe mounting plate.

The ActionProducts Spacer or Audio-Riser allows for the 15mm Light Weight Rod Assembly to be attached to the front. This would also give you the added benefit of XLR input (and hidden cords) if utilized with the Audio-Riser. Any mounting or bridge plate can be attached on the bottom of the riser, so you can quickly change set-ups, while still maintaining a light and maneuverable configuration.

Below is one of our current configurations, there is more is come.

We will keep you posted with our new developments.

Douglas, I'd love to have one like the one you made for R1, but it would trickier to make for the Epic because of the way the front is configured, what with the paucity of bolts, plus the audio ports being there. But if you can do it I'll be first to buy one.

I've had the ET Riser/Mounting Plate and 15mm front adaptor for a couple weeks now on the Epic and it works like a charm...just as the previous version of the ET mount on the R1 did. But they did add a center screw hole that gives it added stability.

Also received my DSMC Top Mount from Red and the Spinner...while unconventional I can mount the old R1 Top handle as well as the Spinner which then connects the LCD -at least until I get the Bomb EVF and whatever manner of rail & bits to put it all together.

I have Brook's riser plate and it's a beautiful piece of design and craftsmanship, as are all of Brook's accessories. I'm a big fan. I also have the new Red QR system, which is very slick - great for cinema-style shooting and easily switched between different rod standards.

I'm interested in Doug's adapter because it would make for the lightest, lowest-profile way to get rods on the Epic. If it works like the one he made for R1, it could be used alone or with any style of bottom plate.
