  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Official NAB announcements...

In fact, you are flirting with getting banned for a week.

Jim

oops.. looks like i have a bit of a trigger finger tonight :(

I may of accidentally also pressed the " forever button "

heh heh heh.

Thanks for the news, Mr. Jannard.
I´m imagine that this days are to hard for yours and RED TEAM, it´s too sad the tragedy in Japan and the future days there don´t look very well. All the partners development have the same problem with cpus,condensers,lcds,lens....
I suspect that my new production will not be film with new Epic :( , but..........what the hell, I´m waiting the release a Epic X next Summer and thats all :)

The present producction will not be film with Epic but the next producction sure will be film with this rocking camera :)

Sorry I don´t speak english very well ;)

I am Very curious for more info on the projector. I bet Red is guna take those $250,000 price tags and bring it under 10 grand. Quick question though if someone from Red can answer.

Do you still carry/stock/produce the red one with the M sensor? I wonder this because as any company does, price drops with old technology, and I would be interested in a red one if there is a significant drop in price even if it is only with the M sensor.

Thanks Red

Of course, Japan has an unprecedented effect on Red's roadmap and scheduling and with the greatest of resepect to those who have lost their lives and homes from that disaster I feel a little uncomfortable asking about release dates, updates etc, given that theres a real human tradgedy behind the delays that far outweigh the impatience of the impending game-changer.

With that said, will there be any news regarding the Scarlet interchangeable? - in the initial post the EPIC-X and Scarlet 8X were referanced but (and maybe I missed a crucial post somewhere else) there seems to be nothing regarding the interchangeable.

Many thanks - and congrats on what (even from here in the UK) seems to be an exciting NAB appearance from Red!

These are amazing announcements, truly. You all deserve a little wind in your backs, and I'm sure it will come soon, in one way or another. One question:

Is it plausible for RED to develop any kind of 3D monitoring? Large or small?

What is amazing? What you are so glad? That we will get Epic-X and Epic-S only in 2012? (it is would be good if in the begining and not in the end).
The problem is a problem. The main thing is clearification and not uncertainty!
So supply chain is the only problem to release Epic-X and Epic-S?
I meaen even 4,5,6 month and you will find the way out about supply chain it is not big delay it is ok! We are waiting 2-3 years 6-9 month delay is not a big problem! Or may be there ia something else? Something about changing in specificationg of Epic-X and Epic-S?
And Dragon? We are talking about release Epic-X and Epic-S with MX-sensor and only then in somewhen in 2012 these shipped Epic-X and Epic-S will be upgrade from MX-sensor to Dragon Sensor? We don't need to wait that you are going to change spec and put Dragon to all Epic-X and Epic-S?

Seeing ARRI announce for Alexa 120fps, wireless remote, and a modular camera version - one can't help but see RED's influences at the highest levels of the industry. Hang in there y'all - if there's not a swag of Technical Oscars heading your way in 2012 there's no justice in the world.

Jim, Jarred, and everyone on the RED Team, we may be kind of upset because we don't get to place Epic-X orders, or we don't get to know specs of Epic-S and Scarlet Fixed, but when it boils down to it, you guys are making THE best cameras on the market, and you are making THE best cameras at such an affordable price. So people might be upset now, and say theyve waited forever, but when it comes down to it, I doubt they would buy anything else because they want the best. So take your time, perfect it, stay ahead of the game, and you will always have the customers.
Great things can take time and certainly run into problems. Patience is everything.

What is so amazing:))? Why are you so glad? That we wiil get our Epics in 2012? Is it so amazing?:))) I see a big problems with Epics and Scarlets and everybodies so happy!:)) Tha main thing now is clearification!
The delay becouse of Japan is a big problem but.. not indeed! I am sure RED TEAM will find the way out in 4,5,6 month. The delau in 6-9 month is not a big problem. Bit the supply chain is the only problem before release Epic-X and Epic-S? Or RED TEAN are going to change specifications of Epic-X and Epic-S or something Like that? For example: Epic-X and Epic-S will be realesed after desilve problems with supply chain and will bw relesed with MX-sensor? And Then aftre it will be shipped somewhen in 2012 these shipped camers will be upgrade for Dragon Sensor?

I think dragon does not get the awe and wow as it should probably simply because you chose not to post specs, which I think is perfectly understandable.
sad for us, but fully understandable. if EPIC would have been announced as "we are making a RED 2" it would have been quite similar, just because people
wouldn't be able to imagine what EPIC could be about. some seem to still not be able to and it's out there - at least it seems to me that way.
so the reaction is "hey, cool more stuff from red!" and not "wow, that is incredible that anyone could pull that off"

i personally think dragon is awesome just simply because it's another RED gift to the customer. there is NO OTHER COMPANY (excuse my shouting) who does that!
first it was "you want an upgrade? no problem, get a new RED brain and keep your acc." which is already awesome in itself. but offering the sensor swap option once more
is just christmas for every camera owner.

so! keep going RED! all this is just awesome, that you still stick to your way of making obsolescence obsolete.
I'll keep collecting my cents in my cookie jar for an EPIC, and until then I hope to have my own little miniEPIC aka Scarlet soonish.

but... wait
...did he say laser?! :) oh sweet sharpness. I would love to see the image of that! hooray to that!
and you wrote "home" projector... sounds like it would be pretty inexpensive.

@Jim or Jarred
do I get this right, as that "home" is different from "studio" or "pro" in terms of price point?

so home projector / consumer redray ... sounds as if you guys want to flood the base with 4K ! right on!

I saw some pics of the consumer redray, and was wondering what do you feed that minimonster in terms of media?!
and if it's consumer, any thoughts on what medium could or will be the new 4K media standard?

btw, any FCP news from RED? 4K is in, so RED is probably no issue at all.

did I mention, that I wish I could be there? ;)

have some more great days over there and keep us posted!

cheers,
patrick

As someone who's been following RED for a while, and hopes to own one of your cameras in the future, I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to attend NAB for the first time this year. Nevertheless from what I've seen and read of the news from the booth online I'm impressed and continue to be grateful for the hard work that is self evidently put in by all the team.

Although I've only briefly met a couple of RED's people, Alan at RED Europe and Ted when he visited London last year, what shone through was their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause, something which certainly seems to be a part of RED's DNA and shared by all the family.
