It's late on a Tuesday night in Vegas and I've been drinking, so take this idea for what's worth. I was thinking (bad idea) that the reasoning behind offering an Epic M option late last year has now been somewhat superseded by the Japan Factor, and it may be worth revisiting the concept. The Epic M is machined, has a titanium mount, costs about 20K or so more than a comparable Epic X (stage 2), and comes with many discounted bundled accessories (compared to the free accessories, if less of them, offered with the stage 2 epic X).

In light of recent events beyond everyone's control, I would love to see Red recharacterize the M program and begin offering optional hand-made Xs, without titanium mounts, at a price in line with the original stage 2 epic X offering, plus a surcharge to account for the added cost of making these by hand (but less than the current M price). This will execute your Stage 2 (so no double dipping) and you will get your Epic X* a wee it sooner for a wee bit more money, until the assembly line can get into full swing and fulfill everyone's order by summer's end... or whenever.

Just a thought. I apologize if some of my facts are off. And it may be moot since some Epic M adopters with super low serial numbers still haven't received their Ms yet.

Edit: added "stage 2" for clarity, since it includes an $8500 discount and several free inclusions.

Have you seen the Red Store? Epic M package is $58000, but it has a pile of accessories with it, including a BombEVF, RRed Pro Touch 5.6" LCD, some redVolts, 4 128GB SSD's side module ... I forget what else.

I think its a fair package.

Oh, and if you haven't been contacted about your Epic M, nag a bit. Make sure you do so to Kelly and your Bomb Squad rep.

I'd take a guess as that RED have thought of this but maybe there's things outside their control? I like the idea though and it's been said before but it is worth a second look at, the surcharge will be worth it getting an EPIC-X early (early adopter pricing) and being able to start generating money so when RED Dragon program comes along the cameras paid itself back and there's cash to upgrade immediately given notice...

I mean the other side maybe that one must also consider that all the accessories are not mass produced probably? They do have them marked as machined...so is that cost absorbed or something?

On the upside, this means a potentially fully enabled camera by the time X hits and enough REDVolts and maybe even the Nikon mount done as well as Canon and SSDs for everyone that needs and ordered them...
Though they must have crazy orders for M by the sounds of things

Alexander: I agree that the pricing is fair, all things being equal; it's just so much more than a Stage 2 Epic X, even given the hand-made nature of it. I already signed on for one way back in January, with some trepidation, in case X (#413) is delayed further... but the extra 20K hurts.

Imran: Ya, I figured it was debated before. I've been off the boards since December, keeping myself occupied. I think the upside is very valid and I expect a fully functional X with all the accessories come August or September, so long as folks getting both an M and X ahead of me don't snap up all the available aks. But I also would not mind getting the camera sooner if there was a more affordable option. Anyway, like I said, probably moot given that Ms don't appear to be rolling out right now in consistent numbers (for obvious reasons).

Ill have two please Jarred...

Ive crawled, groveled... for a "M" for months and months, please o please sell me one!
Ill jump through all your hoops. Ill test it with an inche of it's life, Ill post images that really show latitude...
I have a 25 day shoot in deepest part of the middle east coming up, 50 degrees all day! Not only will I give you great images, I'll temp test the beast!

Come on mate... Your my last hope!

Or.... if my EPIC X is literally only a few weeks away. Ill wait for that. If it's months and months away. Please put me int he M program. Ill make you proud.

Check what EPIC-M comes with, do the reverse math and figure out the real price difference. Remember.. EPIC-X is just the Brain. We have different accessory packages for different stages.

Figured I may have missed something. I did the math a few months back, so if extras were added, I just missed it.
