pretty much nailed it right there. we will be lucky to get any new info at this point.Click on Jim's profile and read the BAD NEWS section. or google Japanese Tsunami - Radiation.
The entire industry just took a big hit to the supply chain... going to take months to sort out.
While there certainly will be cool stuff at NAB and all things EPIC and RED RAY etc... the Scarlet had key components affected by the Japanese catostrophe...
I mean there are still 15000 people missing. they are digging thru mud to find bodies and 250,000 are still homeless. factories were destroyed and damaged.
Id honestly look at late summer for a Scarlet announcement... if it happens sooner, awesome, but RED has their hands full trying to deliver 1000's of EPIC's
that now are missing parts and cant be delivered.
Perspective is humbling... nobody more bummed than Jim, and I believe that. Scarlet WILL ship... but its a few quarters away imho
glad you liked the ep.
I was at RED yesterday, and Ted will be joining us on the post pit booth around 2pm on Tuesday to discuss the "red nab surprise" and give us the full details.

The surprise announcement seems to be happening Tuesday afternoon

On this video http://vimeo.com/22274762 Ted says that it will probably cost around $6000... what will? Just the camera, or is that the price of some kind of package, or what?
There has been some indication that there will be a Scarlet fixed package of sorts available, but what's included and whether or not the approximate cost of $6,000 is for said package is still unknown. Personally, I think that the $6,000 price tag will be for a "starter kit" - the camera, media, battery, power adapter...etc. Basically, the things you need to get started shooting right out of the box.
I am like many of you, realizing the dependency we have generated over the years on the Japanese to create a camcorder we all want and own.
I am stunned that we all are now waiting for the price of the Scarlet, supposedly an American invention, to be determined by the availability of Japanese parts. I would dump my Sony Camcorder in a minute for an American Camera invented and made in America that actually worked. And I mean made in America, not researched and conceived and tested in America and then shipped off shore for low cost labor to crunch out the parts and assemble the bits so the margin is nicely padded. American Pride is such a hollow phrase these days. I wish and hope that it will apply to the Scarlet
with the original feeling it used to generate.
