  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

24-96fps.. lovely.
96-120fps?.... the start of magic.

Its a very interesting psychological transition past say 75fps. I guess as we start to break out of the speed range of most cameras you start to edge into 'The Phantom Zone' an area not as often seen and its in now in the palm of our hands... literally

I know we're all sick of people going off the deep end about unboxing vids, pixel peeping and spec comparisons but the truth is if Epic at all interests you as a working persons tool you need to move beyond the hyperbole of these forums (Im not helping here either i know) and move beyond just picking it up at a trade show and somehow go capture anything that interests you and get that imagery up on a screen, any screen and all the Kooiaid and the bullshit turns to belief.

Camera Protection?

Camera Protection?

I was wondering what kind of camera protection / cover / housing you used on this short - with all the sea water around, I'm wondering what you did to protect the camera?

Any thoughts or advice you can share? This is such a new camera, that I'd imagine that the custom covers and housings are not yet available.

mmhm. I'd love to see that played at 120 hz. And 3D. Will have to wait though - my displays support neither ... :smile5:

Hey Jason

Your curl curl film ist beautiful. Killer job. I watched the other movies of the curl curl sea pool too. This is the most beautiful pool I've ever seen. Amazing location and amazing work of yours.
Best Epic footage so far.

Thanks a lot.

Tim

"Curl Curl" from Jason is wonderful! Great ! Although I like swimming as regular sport in my spare time, I never saw the water drops and waves in such a slow, mystical, detailed and pretty way ! What a great digital and epical revolution in camera techniques, which unfortunately develops almost too fast for many people......

We are currently grading a lot of EPIC footage

I complained on the RC podcasts that applying a base first pass look to all clips in a magazine - is annoyingly hard in RXC since this applies the same new settings to all clips... but if these clips all had different ISO- you would now have reset them all to the same new - but incorrect- setting.
Well I was wrong. Deanan helpfully let me know that one can set which parameters on the look preset will apply to on clips in a magazine.
So if you want to apply a base look without iso, you just click on the preset, then click on look setup and deselect the iso.

thanks Deanan ! great tip

Wow- I was not aware of that- VERY HELPFUL- thanks for the heads up Mike, and also Deanan. :)

Great tip Mike, and Deanan.

I have to say that one reason I enjoy the RC podcasts is that you guys keep it real, even to the point of correcting something you said previously that may not have been right.

At some point (hopefully soon!) I intend to jump headfirst into the fxphd courses, and fill in some gaps in addition to greatly expanding in my skillset.

I look forward to hearing about your HDRx experiences.

This is fantastic. Very dreaming looking - love the grading and of course, the FPS which adds to the magic. Well done Jason.

Thanks Deanan!! And thanks Mike for pointing this out! Sounds like a very smart, logical and helpful thing to know and do!!

I'm loving what HDRX can do for landscape shots as you've shown here. The bridge in Sydney harbour and the one above with John in NZ look like they were captured with expertly places grads to give nice color in the skies beside the exposure for the ground. They remind me a little of Joe Cornish's style when it comes to balancing exposure across the frame to achieve maximum detail and saturation.

Some shots speak for themselves.
Enough said.
