  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sam Druckerman

Thanks Sam ( and Bruce ) for an Epic day of testing. I'm still absorbing the possibilities that this amazing photographic tool creates.

That was a blast, lets do it again;)

The truth is, I have to Thank you both, Matt, and Bruce!

Great Day, more details latter....

But, here's a couple clicks, from the point and bang..

Matt Uhry really delivered great awesomeness.

When you ask a busy DP if he wants to test a new camera with no warning, you don't expect the instant response to be "SURE! I WILL DROP EVERYTHING I HAVE PLANNED AND FLY YOU GUYS AROUND IN A PLANE!"

Something like 48 hours later we were in the air having tons of fun.

Will try to post footage as soon as possible. This is somewhat contingent on my day job making movie trailers. It's more of a day AND night job really.

Also it is contingent on me finding stuff that isn't wobbly as heck - because Matt was flying, he made the mistake of letting me operate the camera ;)

Sam and I also shot more boring test stuff - going through all 5 of the different HDR stop settings shooting a sunset with people walking by, etc.

Thank you Sam, Matt and RED - especially Deanan and Rob for sending us Epic-ready firmware for REDROCKET... in the middle of the night during the weekend!

This sort of service is exactly why RED has the whole community going nuts trying to film cool stuff for them the moment any camera comes out.

Lets see some footage!

I've been having so much fun, running around with my friends, playing with the camera!!! Such a treat...

It's basically been a great party, with good friends, both old and new.... I want to thank these guys for making my Epic celebration off the hook!

I'm going start with Bruce Allen, whose skills are ridiculous.... Bruce has been my right hand man this last week, and we have been smiling the entire time. Matt Uhry, who stepped up with his incredible talent, and as if that wasn't enough..... he threw his plane into the ring! I said it before, I'm very lucky guy.

Matt Garrett, Ruben Russ, jumped on the party bus today, sharing their talent as well.

Everyone has been taking turns at the wheel, and in the future look for more bit's of fun from the rest of the gang....

But tonight, Matt Uhry pulled the rabbit out of the hat, as he drove tonight's 1st offering! Just a quick run through RedCineX... we'll do a DaVinci grade later.

Lets see some footage!

Jarred, this one's for you..... Enjoy :)

Pretty good short footage!!!

Also no need for HDRx in this case.

ISO was set in RCX @ 1600 or higher???

Watching it in loop all the time @ 1080 full screen HP LP2480zx 709 Rec (only error is a pink vertical line at the right edge as a result of beta RCX bug???!!!)

EPIC-M_slowmotion_loop_old-MBP-2007.jpg

Shot on GH2 with 14mm Lumix pancake @ f/2.8, ISO 800, shutter 1/50, 24P movie mode, available light.

This is an example about how my old Mac Book Pro (17" model MBP 3,1 from mid 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM)

can play in loop the newest EPIC-M footage shot by Sam Druckerman, Bruce Allen and Matt Uhry.

MBP 17" feeded with the footage that was archived at the old AvidVideoRAID-RTR-2TB parallel connected to

Magma ExpressBox Pro 1-Lane PCI-Express enclosure that has ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D Network Controller

that was linked to the BMP ExpressCard slot with mobile Griffin ExpressCard 34 Card Reader.

BTW, MBP also has internal SSD drive 128MB.

The external monitor is 30 bit full color gamut LCD HP LP2480zx Dreamcolor here adjusted to REC 709.

certainly puts any lingering concerns about rolling shutter to bed. thanks for posting!

What an awesome piece of test footy! Looks great! Love it! Thanks so much for sharing and congrats!

awesome! that was so fascinating to watch. What is that? Gun powder?

120 fps and Matt Uhry's eBay special 70-200 nikon

Actually the lens for the night slo-mo fireworks was a Tamron 30A 80-200 push pull f 2.8 adaptall converted to PL. Not a bad performer considering it cost me less than a 4x5.6 filter.

It gets used often due to it's light weight / compact size, while I've got much more expensive glass that also covers that range. No possibility of gears and breathes like a plow horse. You can't have everything.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Duclos converted Nikon 70-200...

I have this lens Matt, she is a beauty and great little work horse. I shot a lot at burning man a few years back with one and it was perfect...although filled with playa dust now. Thanks for sharing the goods Sam and gang.

That footage in stunning. The read reset really seems impressive with the strobing firework.

I challenge you to show me a music video that would not look better at 5K 120fps!! :cheers2:

We traded in our "Zzzzzss" for "Mmmmm"s.... breaking a few laws along the way.... Having this much fun should not be legal!

Courtesy of the Magic Man himself, Matt Uhry.... Watch how he levitates us over So Cal with ease, and pulls gorgeous shots at touchdowns along the way! :)

usual disclaimers: just done to share the fun with our fellow RED felows on the board, one-light in RedCineX, etc...

Matt, Bruce and I want to say.... Thanks to RED, for all the good times.

RED dreams big, so we can.

Up next is a Very Special Treat, operated by Bruce... made possible by Matt who took us out on a fantastic flight and spoon-fed us killer shots.

For the past five days, Bruce has been dreaming up HDRx shots, wherever we went.... And I have to say IMO, this shot says everything you need to know about this killer new RED tool.

The following eye candy provided by Matt's flying skills, and Bruce's excellent eye.
