  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bomb EVF Shipping

Trust me.. we have so much cool stuff in development right now, your head will spin.

Why do I sooooooooooooooo believe this is true? I'm sure we'll taste of at least one new development item at NAB ... :thumbup1:

Actually, I think the announcement about hiring the Rockstar from Oakley to focus on manufacturing should have almost been it's own Recon thread. It's really, really big news :)

of course he did :)

Trust me.. we have so much cool stuff in development right now, your head will spin. That will never stop. Now that we have a Rockstar in charge of manufacturing, we can spend more time focusing on development and less time apologizing for how shitty we are actually getting stuff out the door :)

That's great news Jarred/Jim - seems like things have come so far that delivery has been really the only legitimate complaint. When that is solved, it's infinity and beyond! :-)

I would also add how much I really appreciate your efforts to manufacture as much as possible here in the U.S.

Any news on Epic-X production? I'm guessing cast parts were the final major components - since there is substantial lead time and you wouldn't want to finalize until you were sure everything else would fit.

Any news

Any news

Any news about when I can expect to receive my BOMB EVF?

Please keep us updated

Thanks

I think these EVF's are more elusive than than an EPIC...
It's been a long long time for everyone.
Hopefully they will finally ship with the EPIC's.. but... past history says I doubt it.
I don't think EVF's are on RED's agenda as much as RED watches.. red matt boxes etc...
I'd rather have my eye in an EVF than look at a 5 inche screen in broad daylight.
I hope they ship soon.

I don't think you did, Neil, although Oakley makes a watch and one might think Jim would be one black background, ruby digits and red hands away from being able to make a RED watch.

It would probably sell :).

which items exactly?
only bomb evf?

For those customers who don't read the "Crucial Ordnance" thread ... or Reduser for that matter ... it might be a good idea to be more specific on the Red Store site.

Bomb EVFs, RED PRO Matte Boxes, Red One SSD side modules and all three sizes of SSD drives should most likely be listed as "limited availability" until they are shipping in substantial numbers.

In addition, items like the 7" LCD currently show up as "in stock" when in fact that size of LCD has been backordered for a very long time.

That might clear up some confusion.

Just my two cents.

buy an epic-m and you get a bomb evf it seems.. so thats the quick way unfortunately

Is that true?
I figured they'd follow the queue?

Given that Epic-M is essentially the tattoo program, I figure giving those owners a Bomb EVF with their purchase is in all of our best interest. In that I mean that I don't believe Jim would give the go ahead for Epic-X production without the M having been fully tested with all necessary components. Giving these owners precedence on the bomb is only speeding the arrival of our Epics - something that's going to make all of us a lot more money than simply having an EVF attached to our Red Ones right now.

I've been visiting this thread for a while now hoping that it would be a valuable source of news - but honestly since the announcement that Red would be hiring a new production manager it's turned into a forum for people to complain and question things they have already been given the answer to, or valid explanation for. We know that Red has been having production issues, we know they have taken major steps to correct that - and most people should realize that a new hire is simply a first step in a lengthy process, and that production won't improve overnight. We also know that Epic-M customers are getting bombs, and any regular visitor of Reduser should be able to piece together exactly why it's being done this way because Jim and Jarred have been so transparent about what the short and long-term goals of Red are.

At this point I feel like it would be better to close this thread and open a new one when bombs start shipping in large quantities (kind of like what was done with the matte box) if only for the admittedly selfish reason that reading posts complaining about things we already have a (very good) explanation for is incredibly frustrating to me. It must be frustrating for everyone at Red to see the same old complaints constantly rehashed as well...

/rant.

Good catch. Error with our availability status update. Web team will refresh and you will see proper status...

Good post, agreed.

Red watches? That is pretty passive aggressive Mark, don't you think? There is absolutely ZERO strategic advantage for RED to deliberately delay or ignore the EVF program over a Mattebox (or watch), that's fool's logic frankly and if I were RED, I'd make sure you were of one the last people to get one for remarks like that. (But I dont work for RED)

The reason they got behind in the first place was the original EVF supplier WENT BANKRUPT... that screwed RED hard. Plus these are PRECISION devices unike any other other EVF... IN THE WORLD...they are not easily mass produced like carbon fiber MB's and thus take longer to make. They are delivering them on pace of about o 100 to 150 a month or so it seems... (based on my interpretation of this thread)

and with potentially 1000's of people on back order of the original, its going to take months to catch up... meantime, they are innovating and releasing other gear as they can... makes sense to me.

Frustration is one thing, but to say an EVF is not part of RED's agenda is ridiculous imho. Why the hell would they take that stance?

Ahhh. Bankrupt. I admit to some curiosity. I don't have an EVF of any flavor - yet. Now this was probably hashed over a dozen times way back when, but why did they change the features from the original EVF to the Bomb? AFAICS from the manual, they lost the rotary knob entirely, and reduced the resolution so you have this kludgy two-button press depending on if you want to see the top 768 lines or the bottom... why not just keep a 1280 x 848 display?

RED must have had good reasons for making these changes, but I'm buggered if I can see why... it *looks* like a retrograde step... so I'm curious.

Mike

Not sure what manual you are referencing??

Its 1/3 the weight and size, which is an engineering feat. The original was a beast. Definitely is higher resolution than the original. Has a built in heater now for cold weather and, to my knowledge, its the highest quality EVF on the planet... so how is that a retrograde? Everything they did has been reported as an improvement and if you must have the rotary knob, well there are always 1-2 first Gen EVF's for sale every month down in the classifieds.

I'm curious where you got this FUD?

EDIT: and here from a guy who owned both...
The Bomb EVF is the finest EVF I've used in my career.

been known for a couple years. during the meltdown

I never heard that; what are your sources? Never seen that info on REDUSER either. If you make that kind of a statement, you should provide more than innuendo.

Please list references for your claim.

Edit: I am under a RED NDA so I can't say what I think I know, which is basically nothing. But I have never heard what you said.
