  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC is a Dream to Configure!

Yo Dino, I really like the way you've been sharing info about your Epic. Cracking off those first few shots randomly and posting the footage was super cool, and I like hearing and seeing all the little things people are doing with their Epics. Like carrying it by the monitor, or using third party accessories. Thanks man.

I can't wait to configure my Epic-X myself. Does anyone know if RED is making a V-lock or Anton Bauer battery plate module that goes on the back of the Epic? Just like on the Alexa? Would be nice to keep things compact. It could even have a small built-in battery for continual operation when swapping batteries.

Haha, Dino I like the safety padding for infants/kids as a backdrop for a few of the photos. Much more colorful than just white plexiglass! Anyways, thanks for sharing all you have; I've really enjoyed all your posts and insight to Epic it's been great!

I love the re-booted Mantis rig, held easily at waist height with an MP - can't do that with RED ONE - I'm super-psyched for that one - thanks, dino!

Hi Dino,
The ET top plate looks good. Does it get hot covering the fans though? If so how hot are we talking... Warm your hands on a cold day or burn your hands if you stay too long? In fact how hot do the fans get on the top of the camera at all?
Thanks for sharing.
Paul

The ET top plate looks like a must-have accessory. Can't wait to get my Epic so I can play... Heck, I'd even take an empty Epic housing just so I can play with configurations. ;)

Good luck with that, Jeff! I agree though, the top plate will be the first accessory I'd want for mounting options.

Yah this kind of configuration would be super useful for me too. Could work really awesome with the OGrips as well -- thanks for posting Dino and with your experience I'd love to see any other possible configurations you can dream up. Thanks :)

IIRC there is a module form factor battery option in the works for Epic/Scarlet called RedVolt. AFAIK existing 3rd party mounts with the proper LEMO connector should allow use of V-mount or AB 3 stud batteries on Epic/Scarlet just like on the RedOne.

how is the REDVolt coming on?

From the pictures posted so far it looks like no one has the REDVolt and they have to power the EPIC using other batteries.

Already know all that. Just want to be able to reuse the v-lock batteries I already own - and in the most integrated way. I'd like to avoid as many cables as possible ;-)

Yes, avoiding additional cables, adapters etc etc is what I am hoping for as well.

Exactly. I love my R1, but its one of the things I'm looking forward to the most about the Epic. First of all the small form factor, modular design and the whole unclutteredness (oooh new word!) and ofcourse 5K HDRx ;-) Btw. does anyone know if other companies are going to be allowed to develop modules for the Epic and Scarlet system?

I trust and see Epic to be a sweet camera on any Set and Photo shoots ;)

In some tests and set up there will alwsy be inevitably the classical spaghetti Cable,
as in this shot linked on our Article of Engadget from Image shack.

Love to see ET or somebody make an Epic Cheeestick.

the existing batteries, redbricks et.al. work perfectly, there is a little pigtail that converts the r1 battery holders (QP, Cradle and BBC) to EPIC power. it comes with the camera.

It amazes me how many things people can worry about.

Jim

The world is built on worry and stress. I try to take a different approach. Only worry when it comes down to life or death situations. For everything else, taking a deep breath usually works.

That is nice and all, but only as a temporary solution IMHO. I'm not too fond of the way it's mounted on the videos posted by Gibby and Ketch: http://vimeo.com/19651689

The real killer would be an "end"-module with a V-lock or AB-mount :-) I know that would spoil the ability to position the REDmote on the back of the camera, but in turn that allows me to suggest a way to mount the REDmote on the side of the camera instead. Maybe someone could make a dual purpose mount that would allow the REDmote to dock on the right side of the camera and allow charging from there. I'll post a drawing if anyone's interested :-)

Basically, I just think there could be an even better way to mount the original RED Bricks. Hopefully RED will be able to make a module for that purpose; I'd buy it! ;-)
