  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The 007 Thread

Mark,

Would love to see some high contrast outdoor bright sun/deep shadow scenes with skin tones if you happen to have shot some.

Did anybody else notice this? This is from OffHollywood's posted A001_R016_0119IO.0000117F.R3D

This is Full debayer 1:1 crop. No scaling of any kind.

The left side of the frame has a similar case where her hair is in front of another light but of different colour and seems to be OK.

Could this be a codec weakness with red colours?

Looks strange...

Not exactly sure what you are saying...

Jim

I thought the slowmo footage looked as good as the 5K frames when zoomed 100%, so I checked to see what res it was shot at. Then I remembered 5K @ 120!
This camera is Epic.

:confused5:

I thought it was obvious!

The hair looks like it's half resolution and scaled up with an awful algorithm or a victim of horrendous aliasing.

EDIT:
I think Miltos was referring to the jagged looking hair strands on the upper right hand side of the crop Jim.

Yes, that!

Checking... Alpha REDCINE-X.

Jim

The issue looks like a REDCINE scaling problem. I'll talk to the boys and see what is happening. Good to find this now.

Jim

Wow, that Mark is one lucky guy! I wanna play with 5k and models with pillows too;P Threw on a qick grade...fun playing with such awesome material:)

The footage looks awesome. I thought it was shot at 96fps.

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8
What do I need to use to view the raw clips?
I have downloaded the latest version of Redcine
but all I get a RED X's???

And I did run the 32 bit app.

Yes it was, but it had momentarily slipped my mind that I this was not the awsome RED ONE that shoots in slowmo at lower res, but the Epic that is capable of 5K (1:2.35) @ up to 120fps.

Make sure you are using the EPIC enabled version. It should be Build 356E.

Damn, I need this camera... :drool5:

I'm looking forward to finally shooting motion pictures that I don't have to make excuses for... HD this, limited dynamic range that...

And, yeah, I'm not a film guy, so I never think of it in those terms. Digital Cinema all the way for me.

Hey, just something that I noticed since I'm beginning to learn how to color grade. When I am working with these r3d's I'm having a hard time separating the whites of the eyes, and teeth from the skin color. It seems as if the pure white in the color science is being interpreted as skin tone. I thought it was just my lack of knowledge but I am seeing the same issue with the pictures above. Any thought?

I agree with what your seeing. I think the color temperature (white balance) is off.
