I've been following this forum with great interest for some time now. I've been shooting nature footage with the EX-1 for nearly three years and I'm very eager to move into Scarlet and possibly the Epic S.

My question is, can you folks give me a brutally pessimistic estimate on how long it might take someone like me, currently no deposit down, not in line, to hope to acquire a Scarlet or Epic S? I realize you can't crystal-ball it but maybe a rough guess? When RED goes into full production do these cameras roll off the assembly line at blinding speed?

End of summer...subject to change.

That would be very optimistic. I have a epic x stage 2 on order and i think by the end of summer I will be still waiting

brutally pessimistic - never
brutally realistic - soon
brutally optimistic - very soon (compare to how long we've been waiting for)
:)

End of summer.

End of summer.

Wow. Thanks, Jim, nothing like hearing it from the top!

And while I'm at it thank you for your mind-blowing results in this field and for putting this level of equipment into the hands of people who lack mega-funding. And for demonstrating that the good old American can-do spirit is alive and well.

I'm in the same boat as Arthur, and I'd like to re-iterate the sentiment of this post. It's absolutely amazing that when Scarlet comes out, I'll be able to purchase (hopefully I can afford it), the second best camera in the world, behind of course, only the Epic line. It is a mind-blowing achievement!

Truly. I would love to get the Epic S but I'm afraid that once it's fully configured it will be well in excess of 20K. The camera would be used overwhelmingly for nature and documentary work. There's a filmmaker here in Asheville who showed me some local mountain scenery shot with the RED 1 and it was the best-looking footage I've ever seen.

End of summer.

Jim

Here's to the end of summer.

For everyone's sake, yours included sir, I hope this is the brutally pessimistic estimate and there are no more bad surprises waiting for Red. You guys deserve the best.

End of Summer is what it would be for now...

But remember, EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Some of us here are painfully aware of that.

Jim says End of Summer, but I wouldn't take that as a hard and fast promise. I'm not trying to bash RED or Jim, nor am I trying to undermine them. I'd just hate for Summer to come, and for there to be no Scarlet available yet (hopefully this won't be the case), and we have a bunch of angry forum users posting: "You promised it to us for the summer!!"
