Another year gone :)

Even that Epic is still not available in their shop.
We were sick of waiting and went for Arri Alexa two weeks ago.

People have to work, and not being stalled with rumors about any RED releases
which will never come true.

The RED MX is still quite an excellent option, also compared to the Alexa. The basically have different strongpoints, depending on what you find important...

Tom, best of luck with your Alexa - there's lots of room for all kinds of cameras for all kinds of users. You can discuss Alexa here: http://www.arridigital.com/forum/ and if you want to later add a RED camera to your business, you can discuss all about that here.

Wrong, the RED was not born on Jan 01. The first orders for the RED ONE were on April 24, 2006, so that might be a more accurate anniversary date. There will be a lot of Epics in the wild five years after the first RED ONE orders .... absolutely, utterly, amazing!

hey tom, red 1 became true, so will epic.
with the alexa + module you are somewhere in the 60 k € range.
thats around 80 k usd.
an epic will run about 40 k usd.
why didnt you rent an alexa or r1 mx till summer/fall and then buy an epic.
would have been cheaper and better thinking of the next 36 months before the next round of sensors will hit the streets.

Graeme ... I decided to check that forum out ... this was the first post I saw ....

I came right back here ....

Although I can't share Tom's attitude, I still feel a little bit with the TO. A month ago Jim said something about news for the Scarlet. Some things trickled down through other threads but it is never the big announcement with all the facts combined like he does for EPIC. It's a bit sad.
I don't mind that it takes as long as it takes, just that it always seems to be forgotten behind the EPIC news.
My 2c.

The news will come in due time. Red has learned and taken a cue from other manufacturers. They will announce when they have concrete information to give us.

I agree. Why make the announcement and then not deliver once again. It is this type of marketing that made me stick with Panasonic and therefore I bought the AF100. Yes, I know the Scarlet blows it away in so many aspects but at least with Panasonic I know what I am getting and their deadlines are much more reliable.

It does sound like the Epics when released will revolutionize the film industry which is VERY impressive to say the least for such a small company. Congrats to RED on that. I will never doubt their technical genius but their marketing genius - I am not so sure about. :undecided:

It is easy to hit delivery dates with something like the AF100 when there is no fundamentally new technology involved. It is just a repackaging job. AF-100 has been in development for almost two years too. Panasonic just didn't tell you about it in advance.
When you are pushing the envelope of what is technically possible to the razor edge, it is not so easy to predict schedules. Personally I have enjoyed the ride so far.
I don't pick my cameras based on marketing ploys anyway. The choice is a complex balance of cost vs features and performance. I want the best possible photographic imaging performance for what I can afford. I have waited for 30 years for an affordable electronic camera that could reasonably replace a 16mm Bolex film camera, a few months more is not a problem.

You decided to go from a Scarlet to an Alexa?

All your previous posts discuss how you want a Scarlet (not to mention they're all fairly negative towards Red) then now you decided to spend 65 grand more?? interesting..

If you went with Alexa, why are you still posting here?

Because the Alexa doesn't render Scarlet obsolete?
Because it's more fun here than at the Arri forum?
Because, after waiting for the new cams since 2008, it's hard to stop?
Just to troll a bit?
For fun?
