  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ridley Scott and Dariusz Wolski...

Ridley Scott's upcoming Science Fiction film, which begins principal photography this spring, will be shot on EPIC.

From Dariusz Wolski ASC:

"In my opinion, the new Red Epic camera is about to revolutionize all spectrums of the film industry.

I am going to use Epics in my new project directed by Ridley Scott. I am amazed with the quality of the image and the fact that you can shoot 5k at 120fps without compromising resolution, and most of all the size of the camera.

Combined with the Element Technica Atom 3d rig, we will be able to shoot a 3d movie with the flexibility of a conventional cinema camera.

I don't see anything that comes close to it at the moment. I can't even imagine the potential Epic will have on the big blockbuster industry as well as independent cinema."

Well then...

Jim

"In space, no one can hear you scream." But I am hearing applause. It's building. It sounds Epic.

Congrats to Jim, Ted, Jarred and the entire RED universe. Hugs, or should I say, face hugs, all around.

Ha! The day that Tarantino shoots digital will be the one. I don't think that Spielberg is blinded by the 'Magic' of film as Tarantino is. I think he just likes the look of film and how it performs.

So true. The day Tazza, Nolan, and Speilberg convert, it will be over for film.

Alien Prequel in EPIC 3D - this is massive :) Congrats to the whole RED Team :emote_happyhappy:

Jim, You where to day at our 3D workshop and you said nothing.....

R1 1265, and waiting for Epic.....coming soon

He did hint of more big ones coming. With the Epics and seeing the scarlets on the ET rigs, am I glad that I am taking Geoff Boyle's 3D class. Never been a fan of 3D. Now I know why so many big boys are shooting with Epics for 3D. Most importantly, we the smaller guys can now also produce the same imagery comparable to them. Thanks Jim for making this possible.

I wonder what the first Epic 2D production will be, as much as I love Scott and Wolski teaming up, I just don't like 3D...at all.

Jim, I know this is a weird request, but is there any hope we're going to see a RedMote simulator we can play around to familiarize with Epic's menu interface? Thanks

The cool thing is that an Indie filmmaker can afford to own and shoot the same camera that is being used on the biggest budget/blockbuster movies. I can't remember that ever being the case...

Jim

i second that.

it also means that indie projects qualify for the big screen and distribution ... if they work out well.

With full artistic control by the director - as in image control - it is also becoming more of a directors medium then ever before.

Then 5K autonomous production, enabling the true auteur filmmaker, protecting the investment of creativity, time, funding ... long term ...

it goes on and on.
:-)

that's the good thing about having choices, isn't it?
I wouldn't be surprised if someone who's shooting Red1 or Epic today shoots with Alexa, Genesis, F35, 35mm or 65mm tomorrow, or viceversa. It's all about the right tools for the job (i.e. Epic in 3D movies at the moment), though I understand camera owners (and manufacturers) may have a different point of view.

Exactly! The significance of this statement should not be underestimated.

This will ring true for many who already own a RED camera but more importantly this will be exactly the reason that many will come on board as new RED owners.

In my opinion, the new Red Epic camera is about to revolutionize all spectrums of the film industry.

So, how long will they keep saying "film" industry? I know old habits die hard.
I guess some release prints may end up on film.

Tipping point - I think so!

Ridley Scott's early work was the reason I became interested in film as a child. This news is as exciting for me as I imagine it is for Red.

Wow, fantastic news. 2011 will definitely the year of RED.
Congrats to all of Team RED, you guys totally rock.

I'm in complete and utter awe of this fact.

In just a few months, the EPIC tsunami will be hitting the little indie world just as hard as it is clearly making some big waves in the blockbuster world.

One year from now should be some pretty interesting times. How many more things will have changed. Hard to imagine.

How's RED RAY looking?

A little over 6 years ago, no one anywhere was even on the verge cosidering/making/shooting with a 4K resolution in a camera that could be bought for less than $50,000.

Its when I read news like this that I become a bit nostalgic and I remember when I first heard about the Red One, remember when I looked up Reduser for the first time, remember reading the simple yet ambitious goal Jim stated to all of us "We're going to revolutionize the industry".

Filmmakers, young and old, film veterans and digital warriors, everyone in the realm of Cinema and Photography is now in awe of what has been accomplished.

Jim, to you and your team, the most heartfelt congratulations and warmest regards. Don't slow down, don't let up, and don't stop dreaming.

Guys I don't think it's the Alien Prequel -that's still a ways off- at least what the trades are reporting...it hasn't even been officially green lit yet by Fox.

I think it might be The Forever War based on Joe Haldeman's novel:

An elite task force returns home after a brief interstellar military operation, but discovers that 20 years have past and the planet they once knew is completely different.

Well then indeed! Congrats.
