Scarlet shipping early 2011 - confirmed!!!!

Reduser post of the week

Reduser post of the week

Reduser potw - post of the week

sometimes i think that red is secretly an elaborate, postmodern staging of waiting for godot.

I don't know what is more entertaining, when everyone gets giddy or depressed.

1. Jim is off to ____ with a virtual wad of cash to make sure sensors and other critical parts will be ready according to his production timetable.

2. RED know the Epic firmware inside out, upside down, sideways and in higher dimensions. Dumbing it down/tailoring it for Scarlet S35 and Fixed will be a snap compared to getting it right for Epic in the first place. In fact, they were probably figuring that out while they were getting it to work for Epic. They are so confident in their ability to do this they are starting manufacture of Scarlet hardware asap.

3. Epic assembly line is ready to roll. Again, it's more complex than either Scarlet so streamline it for S35 and Fixed and roll.

4. If Jim is setting that kind of delivery date for Scarlet they must have a manufacturer. Personally, I hope it's in the US, but that may be major agenda item #2 on his current trip.

5. No change in production order makes sense to me. Hopefully agenda item #3 on Jim's trip is getting the sub to gear up for production of the magical Fixed zoom.

1+2+3+4+5 = 3/2011 Fixed!

This is a speculative thread, right?

I LIKE YOUR THINKING! that makes sense that its super easy to dumb down firmware. I doubt anyone could tell the differnce on the internals but i bet a S35 is a a software (probably hardware) downgrade of epic with the internals being the same maybe missing a few boards

Does anybody know if it still will be possible to buy the 2/3 fixed without 'the package' at $4000 (due to the extra cost of HDRx)?

I know that Jim likes his EPIC very much and that he is very much proud of it.

But also know that mostly in a business like this it doesn't matter what you personally like

just because the industry is always driven by the present situation.

And to repeat again that I'm 99% confident that Scarlet will come first (at any of announced model).

Also confirms that Jim is a real businessman and I sure he would like to stay like this.

Hi Sanjin,

I'll bet you a set of Leica lenses that Epic comes first.

Joe,

by unwritten business rule you'll always get the fast investment overturn only selling a cheaper and affordable product.

But if you are ready to loose the money that's totally another story

but anyway just send me that set of Leica lenses ASAP (just kidding) .

I bet by the time scarlet is released the Japanese camera manufacturers will have something much better......any takers?

Epic has always been first. It is still a very moderately priced camera for the major motion picture and TV production market. Epic so far is the only one that has been officially released for production and Scarlet will not likely show up until they have Epic production line issues sorted out and are delivering cameras at a high enough production rate to satisfy market demand in a reasonable time frame.
I am sure Scarlet will ramp up pretty quickly after that as it will certainly benefit from the learning curve on Epic.

I would say that the situation suddenly changed after Sony announced PMW-F3 and now the wheel could be turned on the another direction

that means on the opposite way or that Epic will certainly benefit from the learning curve on Scarlet.

Its not too far beyond the imagination to believe that they can't/haven't developed the tech its just they won't without seriously undermining their other products...so in short not a chance in hell. RED's outlook is very different to the larger companies.

More power to RED if they want to release Scarlet before or at the same time as Epic. Makes sense really, all they would have to really do is point out the major differences between the two and let buyers make their own decisions. But of course, until something's announced officially then all we can do is sit and wait to see what happens.

I may not be Joe but I will take that bet!:sifone:

Too much subjectivity around the words "much" and "better" to bet, but I'd say you'll be wrong.
What's "better"? Better specs at any price, better specs at the same price, or equivalent specs at a lower price? If Sony's F3 is any indication, it's mostly inferior specs at a (much) higher price, which couldn't qualify as better by any standard.

Except that Epic is already released for production. No such announcement has been made for any of the Scarlets.

That was exactly to trick the competition and see their reaction.

Now we know what they pulled out of the hat.

You're one optimistic guy, Sanjin.

Regardless, if RED puts out Scarlet S35 in the first half of 2011, I'll be satisfied.
