  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet shipping early 2011 - confirmed!!!!

Does this worry you at all?

what thread is this in

Scarlet S35 almost concurrent with Epic-X makes a lot of sense. It is sort of a combination of an R1-MX/scaled down Epic. It gives RED something to sell and new customers something to buy while Epic-X trade-ins get made and delivered and probably just about as profitable to RED as the Epic-X at the trade/discount price.

IIRC it was announced as $7000 for the brain and add $1000 for HDRx™™™™™ makes $8000 plus 2 to 3000 for modules monitor so $10-11K, a pretty nice fit between AF100, PMW-F3.

It's all the same sensor right? And pretty close to the same body, so not a lot of difference for assembly/testing - and probably enough gross profit to justify assembly costs in the US.

B. There will be a few interesting developments between NOW and Feb. 2011

All right Mark, you said there would be something new - how'd I do?

It is in the "Epic... Ready" thread

I would much rather the Scarlet come out later, like summer. I only have $7,000 saved up for the s35, and Im unemployed. Im literally starving myself for this camera!

Michael,

agree with all above what you've said.

The situation has changed now.

I'm sure Jim is not surprised with anything that came recently as an announcement from Sony, Panasonic,...

just because he is in business for a very long time and also he knows well all those tricks of the game

like a hiding, bluffing, dribbling, waiting, turing's fast in other direction, hitting the ball, chess game calculation, etc...

Scarlet comes first that is for sure because right now the market situation (Sony drop the new ball) force this decision.

I don't expect anything about the Scarlet before summer 2011. Prove me I'm wrong, Red team !

If Scarlet comes before Epic, surely Jim would lose the respect of all the people that made RED at the start? Could you imagine the outcry if people are shooting/renting Scarlet s35 while the Epic waiters have their outdated R1s?

Even if it would suit me better, I would not like to see this happen. The stage 2/3 Epic guys are first in line, and deservedly so.

I think if they launched the 2/3" models at the same time as Epic though.... that would be a masterstroke.

Well, I don't think Scarlet should come first, just from a fairness aspect. But if it is released shortly after that should be fine. So for example, ship 50 or 100 Epics (or to be selfish 206 or however many are in front of me :-) )

and then start selling the S35 scarlet and then build and ship both concurrently.

Again, for the reasons I stated before the S35 Scarlet is probably more likely and makes more sense overall.

I can't say anything more if Scarlet S35 shipping on or not but know that each R1 owner that holds stages 1, 2 and 3

can keep all those benefits towards getting Scarlet in time even before when Epic will ship.

What does it mean?

Probably that your place to get Epic has the same value as you would order Scarlet (that suddenly should get shipping before).

You don't loose anything...

But also that I do not work for RED and just speculating that means all what I have said it could be totally wrong.

Take all my writings with a grain of salt.

No Epic will sure show up first. Then scarlet fixed. Keeping all thumbs and thoes and what not that Scarlets comes out as short as possible after Epic!

I think it's obvious EPIC will come out first.

But I sure as hell hope that Scarlet S35 can follow three months later.

All I ask is at least the first half of 2011.

So that remains a chance of me shooting a personal feature project on it on the second semester.

Sometimes I think that Red is secretly an elaborate, postmodern staging of Waiting For Godot.

I don't know what is more entertaining, when everyone gets giddy or depressed.

1. Jim is off to ____ with a virtual wad of cash to make sure sensors and other critical parts will be ready according to his production timetable.

2. RED know the Epic firmware inside out, upside down, sideways and in higher dimensions. Dumbing it down/tailoring it for Scarlet S35 and Fixed will be a snap compared to getting it right for Epic in the first place. In fact, they were probably figuring that out while they were getting it to work for Epic. They are so confident in their ability to do this they are starting manufacture of Scarlet hardware asap.

3. Epic assembly line is ready to roll. Again, it's more complex than either Scarlet so streamline it for S35 and Fixed and roll.

4. If Jim is setting that kind of delivery date for Scarlet they must have a manufacturer. Personally, I hope it's in the US, but that may be major agenda item #2 on his current trip.

5. No change in production order makes sense to me. Hopefully agenda item #3 on Jim's trip is getting the sub to gear up for production of the magical Fixed zoom.

1+2+3+4+5 = 3/2011 Fixed!

This is a speculative thread, right?
