  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bomb EVF Shipping

I don't get it.
If Steve Gibby tested a Bomb back in March, and it was perfect, Mark has his, and it's fantastic and perfect, why wouldn't/ couldn't Red just punch out a whole lot more? ... a switch in suppliers? haven't heard about any issues like that. No explanations at all.

Backordered since August 2009... Still waiting...

I guess I should be a lot more patient, then. Sorry to hear your status.
It's very disappointing to see what's happening with Red EVF and Red Drives from consumer's POV. No matter what the causes were.

this is my biggest concern about scarlet. we may see the first production models by Christmas but how long realistically before they start shipping en masse given that considerably less complicated accessories like the BOMB EVF and card readers have been unforeseeably delayed for one reason or another

The Bomb EVF could probably be considered a fairly technical piece of kit. But yes, can RED wrangle all the supply and demand issues that the EPIC and Scarlet sales will produce and restore the good confidence of the citizens of REDLand? But if the Scarlet fixed is released first, the inventory issues will be reduced substantially vs multiple bodies of Scarlet.

This a very worrying sign, as if Red has actually produced Bomb EVF and ready to go and can't meet demand for this product, How!! are they going to meet demand for Epic and Scarlet, is this a sign of things to come, if so people start to leave the fold.

In addition, very little response about the back orders from RED, the silence speaks for itself and people reach their own conclusions.

So for the masses Scarlet 2012 !!

Your statement is definitely the water cooler talk. But we don't know for sure and really would need to wait for an official statement before getting too bent out of shape. The effort to smoke RED from it's foxhole has been unsuccessful for the most part. Let's hope 2010 finishes on a high note with any and all things RED.

"It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO."

Excuse me to get into this ('cause I'm not waiting a Bomb EVF), but I'd like to know about this lack of information in the backordered stuff. Not that I have any backordered item.

All you with backordered EVFs don't have any feedback even from the guys who deal with this? (I remember when I had my RED DRIVE backordered and my bomb rep put me in contact with the deparment who dealt with this)

Thanks for the info!

Actually the prototype Bomb EVF I field tested briefly last March was just that - a prototype. The optics were excellent and the diopter action was smooth - but at that point in time all of the electronic features were not yet activated on the Bomb to work with my Red One camera. Nevertheless the unit performed impressively.

Field testing is a good way for manufacturers to get real-world feedback on prototype equipment. I've field tested TV/film production equipment regularly throughout most of my career. An example would be Element Technica, for which I've been a field tester of prototypes for several years now. There are many other companies I regularly field test for, along with frequently writing shipping equipment test articles for multiple TV/film trade magazines.

Fast forward to August, which is when I received my Bomb EVF. Its now a finished unit - beautiful inside and out - and has all firmware and electronics enabled to interface fully with Red One. Its a great piece of kit for anyone using any model of Red camera - no matter what their core style of production is.

I have no knowledge about the general shipping schedule for the Bomb EVF. I'm not an employee of Red, and I certainly can't speak for them, but I do know this: Red Team is very conscientious, extremely hard working, and quite sensitive to our needs as consumers of their products. I've never known them to arbitrarily delay the release of a product and its shipping. If they could have shipped the Bomb EVF en masse by now I'm guessing they would have. I would also guess that at some point in the near future they will release more info on the EVF shipments and roll them out as soon as possible.

I hope this insight I've given will help you guys. I'm one of you - a Red customer. Granted I was one of their first customers, but nevertheless I'm a customer like you. We're all naturally anxious to get our hands on each of the new cameras and accessories. I'm sure my good friend Mark Pederson (Offhollywood), who is obviously another very early customer of Red, and also has a Bomb EVF, will join me in affirming that the Bomb EVF is well worth waiting for - and worth way more than its price.

Hang in there guys - I have a feeling its right around the corner for you!

As always, I'm really happy to contribute here Michael. Due to a super-hectic schedule this year I don't get the chance to post on Red User as much as I used to - but for sure I still think of Red User as my 2nd "home".

Hope all is going great for you in NY

Immediately when reservations opened...

I have a good knack for keeping my ear to the ground on just when reservations will open...as an example, my first Red camera is serial number 0008, the third Red One camera sold to the public.

Steve, how would you rate the image quality of the BEVF compared to the original EVF?
The one issue I have with the original is the very limited number of steps displayed in Luma value, even compared to the Red LCD, which itself is limited.

If you switch the camera display to Test Pattern LUMA RAMP, do you see an obvious, limited stepping of luminance. In all the Red EVFs I've owned, there only seem to be about 3 shades of gray visible in the right 50% of the luma ramp, which limits the amount of detail that can be displayed of caucasian skin tone, for example.

Thanks

MP

Strange, because people like Cail have been waiting on backorder since August 2009, he says.

We could have had an original EVF shipped earlier this year from that order, but we were trying to coincide it with a RED DRIVE order, and they never were both available. Now they don't make the old EVF any more; and we still have that order on the books.

The news from our RED rep seems a bit like cold fusion - it's perpetually 2 weeks away.

Next week another small batch goes out, we have a heavy backorder on EVFs as many of you know, so those will be fulfilled first. We expect to be out of backorder by the end of August.

Approaching end of September now, can someone from red please update with new timeline for delivery?

The information is essential to our business, we know that all the RED TEAM are working and creating at 100% but would be very important to give us some imformation about what happen with the delivery dates we have much competition in this business and we need take decicion because our cameraS R1 whit out EVF and/or LCD realy can't be working.
