  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

Is there a hold( trigger/button) type feature for auto focus to prevent it hunting when the camera and or subject is in motion? i.e we quickly (auto)nail perfect focus and then it doesn't alter until it's re-commanded to do so. or is it a continuous auto mode only? Or something else- RED flavored?

Yes.

Nikon Lens

Nikon Lens

I think I've read this whole thread, but did anyond from Red ever mention programming Nikon lenses?

Yes, Nikon lenses can work in a similar manner.

Personally I still think the REDMote does not get enough credit for the game changer it's going to be...

The REDMote is going to be the stuff of legend, mark my words...

It will be one of the most "copied" features of RED..

You'll see..

I'm on the edge of my seat now! Just seeing a working mode of scarlet makes my mouth water. I just hope now a first timer like me will be able to get my hands on one before a flight I have booked mid Oct takes off. I'd love to capture Africa in 3k!! Thanks to the team for their outstanding work. Jim, last night I was up till 3am working hard so you'd have a person to sell a camera... or three too. We're with you.

I wouldn't count on it. I don't even think us Stage 2 current RED owners will see an EPIC by October ... I'd love to be proved wrong though!

So, it went right past the desired focus point of 1.7m to 2.25m, and then went back, correct?

Well, I did a little examination of the file provided. Focus was moved from stationary at 1.3m to locked at 1.7m in 13 frames at 24fps for a time of 0.54 seconds. I tried it with my 20D + 85/1.8 (over 5 year old camera, almost 20 year old lens) and it made the same transition from stopped to locked in 3 frames at 30fps for a time of 0.1 seconds.

Not trying to be a jerk, but sooo do not care ;) Kinda like bootup time -- as long as it's reasonable, it's all good. But that does bring up an interesting point: will we be able to adjust the speed of the rack? I bet we will. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the speed with which it focused was determined by how hard you pressed on the touch screen. Damn, that'd be really cool.

Lee... not sure what your point is. We have several "speed settings" as to how fast focus works. You don't always want the fastest. Trying to draw conclusions at this point can only be misleading.

but you don't know what was going on in front of the lens

Jarad said (not that any of this really matters because it looks awesome so we should just wait for it to be released and be amazed):
not a preprogrammed ramp.. the lens was not focused on anything but pointed at a box, i put my hand in front of the lens ( closer than close focus ) momentarily then removed my hand while half pressing the AF button.

Hey anyone interested in buying a bunch of Canon bodies dodgy AF free of charge.
Turns out I won't be needing em in the near future, probably have a bunch of lenses for sale as well:devil:
The fact that this system is going to have AF and we are still to find out about #21 is FANTASTIC news and will be dragging me back into the game! Spring for the overtime Jim we are ready NOW :):)
