  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

APPLE store is DOWN!

So what does all that mean in practical processing power for handling .r3ds?

How will this compare to using a rocket in say last years quad or 8 core?

:rofl: Finally!!!!! :drool5::drool5::drool5:

Will a Rocket still fit inside this thing?

I really hope so!

I'm assuming the one sixteen lane is already taken up by the GPU, leaving another sixteen for the Rocket, and two fours - is that right? The Rocket needs at least eight lanes, I think.

hard to get excited about this...why can't this POS company just ask us what we need and deliver it? enough PCI-E slots, usb 3.0, CUDA support...

...can't wait on :gun: Apple anymore.

All they did was fluff the CPU and video options. At least there's a new EFI I can flash to my '09 Mac Pro and then I can upgrade the CPUS. I'm really surprised we're getting this update now. I guess Apple probably waited for supplies of the Nehalem units to dwindle before releasing. But the timing really sucks. We're going to see new Intel CPUs and chipsets in about 2 months, so what then? This update is about 4 months behind the rest of the industry. Apple, you're screwing up.

Same thing with the iMac. Where's the USB3??? Just a CPU update and new ATI GPU? I can't buy one now... What a shame. I'd like a new 27" iMac for the family, but it's worthless as a home computer to me without USB3, eSATA and an nVidia GPU. I guess I wait another six months and limp along with the iMac I already have that I can't use for anything serious, but at least my current one runs CUDA.

If Kenny Powers were to comment he'd say "Apple, your F*ckin out, Kenny Powers is going to PC and droppin your sorry ass."
(for those who love East Bound and Down as much as me :)

Seriously, it's rediculous at this point. I was really hoping for a price reduction on the older model Nahelem MacPros as well but that didn't happen either. Steve, if your listening, get on your iPhone 5 prototype and google the top most requested features your customers want in a new MacPro. Then, sit on your iPad and wipe your P**sy with it.
With love,

Let me guess. Only 6 cores are working.

As far as 27" LCD goes, Dell does 12 bit processing and 10 bit on panel in theirs. These are 8 bit.

I love this tough:

It was about time. I've been wanting this for years. Give me one for left hand also. This could bring FCP editing to a whole new level. If there is no lag, that is.

Hopefully it doesn't stop working when you touch it.

Not to pile on, but lack of USB3 in their flagship model is stupid since it's going to be the standard for just about every peripheral that will come out over the next few years and presumably you buy one of these machines to last 3 years or so. I know apple will argue that you can add a card for usb3 but that just makes the number of card slots an even larger problem.

Anyone care to beat the dead horse of Bluray?

NO Mac Pros so far ;(

BUt I guess I will get the 27" iMac i7 for now, but really looking forward to a Bad A%$#@ Mac Pro, to create a powerhouse not only for the Epic but also for my now extremely demanding Stills work flow, with my new 60MP Still MF camera system, I guess I prepping to see what it will be like to process with the Epic 645 he he.

This is an embarrassment.

That pretty much sums the whole thing up.

Leave it to Apple to release and product that is more or less obsolete right out of the box.

They should take a lesson from Red, and from what PC users have known for a long time: Modular is better. The ability to swap out components as newer and better ones come out is key to future-proofing a device.

I'm totally agree mate.
This is the reason i'm on the edge of choosing PC or Mac for last 2 years.Yes Mac OS is very solid but this company thinks people are stupid enough to pay money only for the gray case design. I read on the internet somewhere, apple was saying : "We don't listen customers, we determine the future technology and customers buy" what a shame technology annoucement it was today. I'm very sure, dozens of people exists around there will gonna pay this amount of money just to show the apple logo to their customers..

A bit worrying. I thought it would have more because they have waited. My pet theory is that Intel is not playing nice. They also control the usb3 technology.
