  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

APPLE store is DOWN!

I think glossy displays make more sense on desktop monitors then laptop monitors because you have control over your environment (like being able to turn off the lights).

Exactly. I don't mind the glossy so much. Most color critical work is done in a light-controlled environment (or should be) and we're used to having glossy plasma screens, broadcast monitors, projector screens that need controlled light to keep black levels down, etc.. For color work, I don't mind a glossy screen at all.

Where I don't like the glossy is when I'm enjoying the view outside and I have the shutters open in my office and just trying to do general work, write code, etc.. I can often catch glare on a glossy screen. So in that respect, I wish the displays did have a matte option.

I agree with Brandon's assessment of the 30" ACD and it was a nice display when it came out. But it's dated. No LED backlight, no 10bit input support, it's an 8bit panel... They do calibrate well, but it's not my first choice for any color critical work, not by a long shot. I've been using the Dell 30" LCDs for my desktop monitors. They're on par with the Apple ones, but I actually preferred the black bezel around the screen, which is pretty thin, just like the Apple one, maybe a bit thinner. And they're a lot cheaper. The software talks to these displays as well, but can be a problem on some of my Macs where I haven't installed Windows via VMWare. Dell's software utilities obviously only work under Windows and that's the only way to access some of the color adjustments. I can only do backlight brightness and contrast by the controls on the front.

i like mac

i like mac

i like the new mac pro 12 core
i like the workflow on the mac
i like the raw technics
i like RED

so what?
you won't deal with beta stage?
you can't wait

i like beta - it's always in front of some gold versions ( RED proved that )

so what?

Huh what?

That's my thought as well.

Mainly because this Mac isn't in beta stage at all....it's like if, say, Panavision, who's cameras have been around for decades, suddenly released a consumer film camera that they sold at your local Best buy.
