I myself had a few, almost new, latest generation, R lenses sitting in my closet, and I took them to Duclos to have them put focus gears and 80mm fronts. i now use them with my 5d and get beautiful results, big improvement from my Canon L primes.
Allan Gordon sells the old Dalsa lenses (they went out of business), which where re-housed leica R lenses. they are fantastic, but not cheap. and i don't know if they still have some left.
Hi Roberto,
Is it just the rotation that attracts you or the different aesthetic of the lenses?
Don't the ZF lenses have a throw of about 270 degrees which seems plenty.
Rob
My attraction to Leica is aesthetic, as well as high IQ/aesthetic at big apertures. Focus throw is a whole different thing.
For narrative I don't think I would consider using the still Leicas, just because of the small barrels. I think it would get me nasty looks from the AC's no matter how long the throw may be. Even if you had them fitted with nice Duclos gears, which would solve the FF problem, cause what happens when you want to throw your hand in there? I bet many will tell me how they pull with FF gears on their Nikons or even on they gorgeous Leicas, but I think I'd rather rent RPPs at that point... then again I don't 1st AC, so I should stfu.![]()
This is slightly off topic but I have to ask one question.
I've been reading up on Leica lenses and I came across this Leitax website.
I read through its mount change instructions and there is this ball bearing thing that puzzles me.
Having never taken apart any lens before, what is the significance of the ball bearing?
...It will also detonate the lens upon removal.![]()
