So in my continued research on mastering a feature... Does anyone know how I take my 5.1 audio files from the audio post house and encode for Bluray.

I do know that I'll be taking my audio files to the colour facility and they will lay the audio to HDcam SR (and various), as well as giving me a digital file. (Prores)

How does that Prores file with the matching audio get encoded for BR, as far as the audio. Does the QT file have 6 tracks of audio and something like compressor knows to encode to 5.1 AC3 if I tell it to.

I feel like I'm missing something here.

Thoughts?

Compressor can encode 5.1 AC3 files given multitrack source files or labelled single track source files.

I would check with your mastering house if they are giving you stereo mixdown or multitrack on the Prores. Worst case you can get sound masters from sound post in single-track format and match them up yourself.

The post house is giving me both separate 5.1 tracks and a stereo mix. We haven't discussed them giving me a "bundled?" 5.1 like AC3.... If I'm describing that correctly. If they could, that would be the easiest, no? The I just use that on the bluray?

Pretty easy to do. We can do this for you cheap - or you can do it yourself- encode the audio and picture using compressor, author using Adobe Encore. Haven't had a lot of luck with the multi-channel QTs, prefer to use discreet files.

Just found out the post house is giving me - raw, uncompressed .WAV files in high-resolution 24bit/48kHz.

Can I use Compressor to encode these to AC3?

Thanks.

I assume I use Dolby Digital Professional 5.1?

And for settings.

Data Rate: 448 (for best results)
Dialogue Norm: -31 (to turn it off?) I hear -31 effectively turns it off
Center Downmix: -3.0 or -4.5 or -6.0 ?
Surround Downmix: 3.0 or -4.5 or -6.0 ?
Compression Prest: (none) I assume

LFE Channel : Low pass filter (check it off?)
Full Bandwidth Chan: Low pass filter (check it off?)
Full Bandwidth Chan: DC Filter (check it off?)

Surround Channels: 90 degree phase-shift (check it off?)
Surround Channels: 3dB Attenuation (check it off?)

Thanks!
